Great buck, Rick! It will look good on your wall with the others.

I'm just happy to be here! Today I'm as young as I'll ever be and and older than I've ever been before!

I was getting quite a few pictures of this buck leading up to and into the first part of the season. I’ve shot bigger bucks but having gone buck less here in Pa for the last two years I decided he would be a shooter if he showed up.
On October 10 I was hunting a scape line in some red oaks that had been raining a bumper crop of acorns. It was warm enough that I didn’t have super high hopes of seeing much, but about 10 minutes before the end of legal shooting light I thought I heard a deer coming. I finally picked him out in the fading light at about 25 yards heading my direction and identified him by his distinct crab claw. At 12 yards he stopped in an opening and I hoped he would turn broadside as I hate shooting steep downward angles. He kept coming and I positioned myself and drew as he got closer, finally at 7 yards he stopped broadside and I sent an arrow thru both lungs. He made it all of 35 yards before giving up the ghost.

I taped him at 125 5/8” gross, and he boned out about 75 lbs of meat. I couldn’t believe the fat on him as most of the bigger bucks I’ve shot have been during or after the rut when they’re all run down and lean.

Congrats on a great buck Rick! He’s definitely a lot bigger than I would have guessed from the trail cam pics.

Soon after I killed my buck (on a property that my dad, brother, and I own) I started getting pictures of these two real nice bucks on my own 30 acre property. My dad hasn’t killed a buck over about 110” since 2006 and there’s nobody I would rather share my property with than the man responsible for getting me hooked on hunting and the outdoors at a very young age. I told him that based on my experience on that property if he puts in enough time on my stand during the rut he will very likely get an opportunity at one of those bucks. Well this past Friday evening he got his chance at 15 yards with his crossbow. He was quartered toward him and he hit him pretty far back so we left him til the next morning and enlisted my cousins help with trailing. He went a few hundred yards with a blood trail that was pretty sparse at times but we managed to stay on it til we found him cold and stiff.

A gorgeous mainframe 8 with 2 kickers and real nice mass and character, He grossed 142 5/8” and tipped the scales at 198 lbs field dressed. Dads biggest buck in around 35 years of hunting.

Yesterday I was talking with Jay while he and his kids were up here for deer hunting.I asked him what the rest of this month looked like for him, said he was fairly open.Jay was'nt able to go to Montana with us last month, due to having too much farm work to get done, well it's going to work out for us to go to Montana and hunt the last three days of the season ,heading back out there thanksgiving morning. So I have another Quest to help Jay get his first mule deer,he's never hunted out west before. If we can get him a nice deer big 3x3 or 140" or better 4x4 early enough I'll try to fill my tag as well.So the New Quest begins again.

Just measured on goggle earth the tall 9 pointer i shot was 1.25 miles from where i first got his trail cam pictures,i know 4 other people that had him on t cams and were hunting for him,so i feel real lucky to have harvested him.It seems most of the bucks i get on t cams stay within 2.5 miles over the 20 years i've lived here at my place.Really looking forward to getting back out west next week and glassing/stalking those muleys.

Some great looking bucks everyone! Unfortunately I can't add mine to the list just yet. No luck for me with standard firearm so will have to break out the old smoke pole and go after him during our black powder season. Just hope no one else gets to him first....
