Bummer...I met him in 1980..
Added story...
My funny story about Eddie Van Halen is when I worked as a hotel waiter in Syr (80ish). I knew the band was there and on the 16th floor but did not know who was where on the floor. Anyhow the bell hop was busy and there was a room service for 16something or other and I had some time (I did not often do room service, but on occasion) So I bring up these two cheeseburgers and knock on the door. I hear “it’s open” and walk in…There sits Eddie Van Halen!!!
So I put the dishes down on the table and say “wow”…I tell him I am going to the concert that night and had my tickets in my wallet and that I really wasn’t supposed to, but would he mind signing a ticket?? He asked if they were good seats and I told him they were floor center and I would probably be able to hear him!! He laughed and signed the ticket….We were a bit confused over which portion they kept at the door so he signed in two places for me!
So I turn to walk out and this woman (who had been in the bathroom showering) is standing there in a robe. She pulls a ten from her purse and hands it to me. I’m thinking “dam Eddie cute chick!” So I get back downstairs with my autographed ticket feeling pretty good and the bell hop asks if I did the room service for 1609, and I say yeah, and he asks me if I met Valerie Bertinelli? I snap my fingers and point to him and say “that’s who that was!!!
No chit right?? My wife, girlfriend at that time, still has the ticket….

Fantastic. He was certainly one of the greatest guitar players. I wish I could've seen them. My oldest brother didn't want me tagging along.

i'll guarantee you that eddie van halen has influenced prob 80% of guitarists today........this guy included. although he was known for his god like skills on the guitar....eddie was also quite profeicient with other instruments as well. thank god that eddie was here,,,,,,and left us his music to enjoy and to learn from.

Anybody in the last 30 years who has picked up a guitar has thought “I wish I could play like Eddie Van Halen”
A true rock legend. I hope he rests in peace knowing that his name will live on forever. He is to rock what Beethoven is to classical. You know who he is even if you don’t listen to his music.
