On the board it went to the very outside Oval. Could this be the same hide and I sent it in round not sure why they split it

Depending on the tannery, some times leg holes are automatically split out. The can be left intact at an additional charge. Open the leg holes makes fleshing easier.

Moyles leaves the legs intact, at no additional fee

In the future it is best to ask before sending pelts. You can also punch code the pelts to make sure you get your own pelt back.

If you stretched it to the outside line on the board for drying, that is 40x30 when dry.So you lost an inch each side, and two and a half each end.
That hide has also been trimmed at the ends to remove the ragged edges,(and the nose and whiskers if they are left on),likely an inch or so.
You can gain that back if you block the skin, except the part that was cut off.

Boco so you saying it very well could be the same hide. Do some tanneries just automatically cut the arm pits like that

Shrinking is what happens. Like Boco said you can block it out. I would bet it's your hide. What tannery did you use? Moyle never does that. First time I've actually seen a picture of one with the leg holes cut. Looks like an alien space ship

That is basically what a raw beaver hide looks like when GFW processes them. Splitting the legs allows it to go through the fleshing machine better. I was told splitting the back legs while skinning on the hatters doesn't matter at all. Haven't tried it yet as I'm so use to skinning them the normal way.

A lot of furriers prefer the square shape, and will cut out the leg holes before blocking a round beaver if it comes round from the tanner.Tannerys that pluck dye and shear beaver will normally process all beaver with the leg holes cut out. They have to be flat to go thru the shearing machines.
For a lot of applications there is less waste from a square skin than a round one.
That said, all the people I sell to want the beaver blocked round.
Myself,I prefer them blocked square for manufacturing fur articles.
The left over pieces are easier to sew into plates from a square blocked skin than a round one-again-less waste.
I prefer the tannery to process the beaver round-that way I can make the choice which ones I want to block square and which ones to block round.

I've never had a beaver returned that looked like that after tanning but as Boco mentioned- I always put "Round" in the message box when shipping.
