picked these up on clearance this spring thinking it would be handy and the price wasn't bad last Tuesday I picked up a roadkill buck and decided it was a good time to try these broke one and then the second when my son decided he would try it you can see they crack around the blade when you pull on them much at all I went and grabbed my Wiebe zipper and finished easily just spend the money on a Zipper and don't waste it on the smiths for the price of 2 packs of this garbage I could have bought a zipper and 5 spare blades and done a lot more skinning

A dexter skinning knife works just fine.
Right now I’m having amnesia and déjà vu at the same time. I think I’ve forgotten this before.

A dexter skinning knife works just fine. I used a Dexter on the rest of the deer , I just like the hook blades for opening cuts and I was being lazy I cut the hide front and back to help slip it out easily you are right in that for the small amount of time potentially saved on a specific purpose tool just using your knife and be done

I prefer a good quality hooked shingle blade in a retractable utility knife. one that store extra blades. All I ever used for opening cuts on about any critter.
you're only allowed so many sunrises... I aim to see every one of them!

I never have liked gut hooks. I’d rather just use a regular knife and guide it with me fingers.

I dislike the Stanely blades they seem to carry at the hardware stores around here the hooks work fine for shingles but are smaller hook than several others
carpet type hook blades that are designed for a getting through the pile of carpet work better on fur
the geometry of the Wiebe blades look like the Milwaukee blades . the Milwaukee blades sell for more , easy enough to order some more Wiebe when ordering form MTP.
if someone has a better blade shape I am game to try it
