It's part of being a good dad. I was lucky- my boy enjoyed working with the fur as much as he did catching it

I’m lucky that way too. My oldest loves the entire process and is also way better at it than I.

Man I miss Saskatchewan. Have driven through Meadow lake every year for 23 years going fishing until this darn Covid! Have met and developed some of my closest friendships up there. Good luck with your trapping I know you have a ton of them as my friends have taken me on some wild off road chases when they’ve spotted them while bird hunting. I have noticed the majority of people I have met up there are very like minded with us here in Montana who aren’t transplants from liberal states. Keep sharing your pictures!

Yellowstone, may I ask where you go fishing? I’ve been known to wet a hook quite frequently.

Sask this thread is a good one! Thanks for sharing. Any chance of some pictures of setups and maybe a word on baitpiles? Like placement, how big they are and what your using? Thanks again for posting thats some nice fur.

Got a love those RAMS. I use them in south Mississippi for hogs. Very effective.

Love that country north of Meadow Lake, worked up there pre-tar sands development on research.
Keep up the Good Work

Thanks Knappett. Bait piles are actually something we struggle to keep in simply because they go so fast. I use anything I can get my hands on. Moose heads and hides, deer guts, roadkills, dead pigs, goose carcasses. We have so many ravens a truckload of stuff in a location may only last a week. We try to set baits near edges and we also focus on areas where we think we’re less likely to accidentally catch a deer, though we use break away snares. I’ll take some pictures of locations and set ups this weekend.

You bet we’ve been fishing Dore’ since I was in my early 20’s. Always seemed to have it to ourselves until recently now it gets pretty crowded

Set some more bait today. That’s the toughest thing for us, keeping them and the ravens fed:

The bait is set about 80 yards to the right of where I stood to take the photo. The timber continues a mule to my left, for three to the right until it hits a road and three behind me.

Another photo from further up the line from where I stood. You can see where the line meets another line at 90 degrees.

We call those dinks.

If you knew how many racks and sheds I have you’d understand . In fairness, I wired the better one to a tree. I’ll eventually pick it up for dog chews.
