Had a little fun this afternoon putting in a few sets. 45 degree air temp. Not sure what the water temp is. It is a small creek with a pretty good current, spring fed. I am wearing heavy wool socks, wool leggings over those and my moccasins have blanket wool liners. The water went through all those layers almost instantly.
The mountain men were tough sons of guns for sure.

I sure enough admire the trappers that came before us. I have accepted they were tougher than me.

BTW they didnt use rebar laugh

I wore leather moccasins when I was a kid, once. November deer hunting in northern Maine is cold. I got situated before daylight and about the time it was light enough to see I went slipping and sliding (frost) back to my vehicle with some really cold toes. I don't know how they managed back then.

They layed up in camp during the dead of winter playing cards and peeling poplar bark for their horses. Trapped in fall and spring.

Still, I'll give you that they were a lot tougher most any of us.

There's no way I can pound a wood stake more than 8 inches into the gravel and stone in this creek. I'd love to do it right, but no way here.

I have double thickness blanket wool liners. Good down to about 25 if you can keep them dry. Yes, they are very slippery, especially on wet grass or hard pack snow.

I don't think those mountain streams ever get warm. Even in early fall they are icy cold.

It was fun to do. I'll do it more as long as I have dry clothes to change into.

That white coat would have made a bright target for the Natives back when.

White is by far the most common color of coat from that period. Followed by red and blue.

Cool but it being deer season you would not catch me wearing white clothing.

Yep, Victor 11s.

The creek is in my yard and none of the neighbors are hunting today.

That's cool but super unsafe during gun deer season, some people out there shoot at anything white. I'm covered head to toe in orange

Again, this is in my yard, 20 yards from my house. I know my neighbors and they were not hunting when I did this.

Do you walk to the stand in the light? Some people shoot at noise in the dark you know. Might aw well wear strobe lights and bells in the woods too.

I'm nervous wearing orange in the bush-scared some redneck might mistake me for a road sign and start blasting away.
