I know of no one that has left the farm for the city.
Then you don't know many farmers or farm families. It happens all of the time--one way you can see it is the children of farm families that don't want to farm. They want to drink lattes and eat avocado toast. So they leave and the family farm ends. What happens to the farm land?

Hobbie, I’m really curious about your statement about knowing nobody that left for the city. The reason I ask is that 1/3 of rural areas are in population decline. I grew up in one. My dad is a farmer. When he finished high school in the late 60s almost 50 people graduated. It’s s farm community. In 1993 when I graduated there were 20. Of those 20, ten were farmers kids, like myself they’re all gone. I believe last year 4 kids were in grade 12. In university I met many guys who’s situation was the same as mine.
So my ? Is genuine, how can you know nobody that has left for the city? What is Maryland doing that most of our countries aren’t?
Edit: 11 if 20 were farmers kids and 1, took over. I can’t belieb I forgot him.

Edit: 11 if 20 were farmers kids and 1, took over. I can’t belieb I forgot him. Population decline, let’s see. My mom is one of ten on her side. My dad is one of nine. Then people started having to pay for other people to have kids and those folks paying only had half as many. If you count the military as leaving for the city, then yes I probably know some folks that left. The farm kisds that don’t want to farm anymore have gotten into the trucking business and rent out the land to the bigger farmers. We have grain farmers here but nothing like the mid west. Truck crops here. Dorchester county has the most farmland in the state.

So then you do know what happens to the land? It gets rented out to a larger farm.
I’m going to assume the same thing is happening in Iowa for example with their 26 million acres of crop as here with our 65 million acres. Less farmers farming it, more corporate farms and people leaving for the city. I don’t think just because they aren’t farming they are in the city. Plenty to do in rural America. Don’t believe that crap about us needing the city. Btw, larger farm operations buying or renting land is not the same as government confiscations nor are they equally blessed.

How much of Maryland’s economy is dependent on the city? It is reciprocal, depending on each other. Our farms depend on the cities for research, innovation and manufacturing. Where would all your truckers truck to if not for the city? Would your chicken and dairy farms be as wealthy? Be real.

The farmers I know would be just fine if they never sent another melon to the city.

It’s hilarious that you believe that. Your assumption about people in Iowa as I cited, still being all in rural America is wrong . In the last 120 yrs their rural population has went from 75 to 30%. I’m sure some of the ones left could admit that they need the city to sell those beans if soy.

You need not worry about our little piece of the world over here, it’s of little importance to the Big Government that is coming. Things won’t change much here but you better get ready.

I think you will see a big push for gun control because Mike Blumberg is still putting a lot of money into it. He spent a lot of money getting the right people elected in other States that are for gun control.
