I remember reading Capstick(death in the long grass iirc) "very carefully like i was sneaking up on a couple of black mambas, i snuck up on the black mambas" still remember that line and him describing those two mambas rising up together from a pile of rocks right in front of him! I would've melted into a pile of bile right there.

J. A. Hunter has a good book also

I have been to the Serrengetti twice, been up close and personnel to lions cheetahs, baboons, mambas and elephants. Lions are alot bigger than you realize, when you are in a tour vehicle/bus/suv and they look at you as a hamster in a hamster ball, and you realize you are not at the top of the food chain. especially when they look down on you from the top, they can get pretty big. elephant can get pretty interesting also.

the massi use to hunt lions with with spears to prove they were men. tough people.
