In Pennsylvania, coal fired generating stations have been replaced by those fired by natural gas. Because gas is cheap. The northeastern US is home to some of the world’s richest natural gas beds, the Marcellus and Utica reserves. It sells at a ridiculously low price here because we are at ground zero for production.

Folks in the coal business saw the demise of coal for power generation when the drilling started in the early 2000’s, long before Obama’s war on coal.

I was raised on the coal seams in jefferson/tuscaloosa/walker counties in Alabama. I remember when they just put in wells to exhaust the coal bed methane to the ooen air just to degassify the seams to make it safe to mine. The first capture well went in less than a quarter mile from my dad's forty acre tract. They leased a right away to pipe salty groundwater into the creek. This would've been back in the mid to late eighties and was a joint venture between the US energy dept and energen corp. By the 2000s wells were going in everywhere ahead of the long walls then going in after, gob wells, to scavenge what was released after the fall.
Not sure how they do it now that Jim Walter went under and Drummond shut down just about all underground stuff.

This whole thread is about changes. Georgia came into play because of the Senate races there and the Biden win there. In case you're not following the news; Trump, in a recorded phone call, asked Georgia secretary of state to "find me 11, 780 votes."
I never said they were liberal voters but, if many or most are Democrats, it would explain away a lot of the conspiracy theories of fraud there.
The changes away from coal have been going on for 40 years. I helped organize a debate in college between two big time ND politicians over the future of coal. (One was Byron Dorgen who served 12 years in the US House and 18 in the US Senate) That was back in the 70s.Here's some more examples. My buddy in ND worked at a coal mine that shipped lignite coal to Minnesota to a power plant. That mine was closed a long time ago. North Dakota is closing their last big coal mine that feeds a Montana Dakota Utilities power plant and the state has a huge new forest of windmills. With the oil boom, natural gas is cheap and close and growing.

Only because of regulations.

My electric provider still uses a large chunk of coal for their generation our power is cheap compared to many others

Even with all the restrictions liberals have heaped on the use of coal for producing electricity in the US, coal is the second largest source of electrical power in the US.

The point is that both natural gas and renewables are increasing and coal is decreasing. Change IS happening.

Don't know how the Healy mine is doing. I live a long way from there. Our power here is mostly diesel generated. We have a dozen or so but windmills but it appears that only a couple are running

No. I will not deny actual evidence. A screenshot from OAN is not evidence.

That is right. Warrior is the river that overlays the Warrior coal field. Officially it's the Black Warrior river but just the Warrior to us locals. I claim it as my river, hence the handle.

BTW, the city of Tuscaloosa is also Black Warrior in the native tongue and is sited at the furthest point a flat-out could make it up river. One of it's first exports was coal pried from exposed seams lining the bluffs up river.

I don't know why this turned into a natural gas vs. coal discussion.

Anyway, another vote for natural gas.

Energy is energy. Use whatever is cheapest and cleanest.

Change is always happening. Many don’t see it even as it happens to them. An example of that would be generations of people that complain about all of the time today’s youngsters spend online while not even realizing tvey’re Sharing tweets, YouTube links and Facebook memes on an online trapping forum. Many won’t even acknowledge they’ve changed into the very thing they dislike.

I admit to watching some Youtube, but have never done a tweet or facebook. It's -18 with the windchill so a good day to watch some football on TV.

Well in the area I speak of there are two power plants, Gorgas and Miller. Steam plants need two things fuel and water. They each sit on a branch of the river and on top of the biggest coal reserve in the south in three major seams.
Doesn't get any cheaper than that unless you start putting in place rules that won't let you dig your own property.

Makes sense. If we had coal here, I would know more about it and likely be a fan.

We just have a little bit in the NE part of our state.

I'm all for free market and not paying anymore than you have to for a commodity. I'm opposed to regulatory authority used to favor one commodity over another.

What did the Republican Governor of Georgia say about this? Or is he in cahoots with the riggers or do they have something on him or his family?

Y'all folks forget these state folks still have to live here after Trump is gone, in 4 or 8 don't matter, plus they either have higher aspirations in the swamp or like feeding at the trough.

Kemp won't even enforce state law that he got passed why do you think he would go to the mat for a yankee he hates?

Besides, Y'all give southern governors to much credit. They are not much more than figureheads power wise. The legislatures saw to that when they wrote the Jim Crow constitutions post reconstruction.
