I call BS on that . Look in the mcKenzie book at the form prices. BUT weird angle ones may cost more. But most shoulder mounts aren't that high . NOW if he means HALF his cost that may be so. But in general shoulder mount forms are about 75 bucks.

I'm a retired machinist and did taxidermy on the side for many years. Now being retired taxidermy has inadvertently taken up all my free time. Its almost a full time job. This year I had to stop taking in work ,2 chest freezers full-- mostly birds . There is alot of cost that goes into a mount that the client dose not realize plus shipping is nuts . Remember you get what you pay for good mounts are not hap hazzard jobs .

I'm very lucky here, I have a guy that mounts my deer for me for $250. His work is as good if not better than anyone around, but the full time guys are charging around $450 for deer now. My taxidermist works a full time job and just mounts around 30 a year so he's not doing it for the money. But the price for your fox sounds reasonable

Im actually surprised the going rate for deer shoulder mounts isnt higher. Going rate here is $475 - $525. Id pay more for high quality work. Afterall it's going in my living room for (hopefully) decades.

This guy cost me about 700 from a top quality taxidermist. Your quote was accurate.

I've been doing taxidermy for 25 years now I attended piedmont community College and in school we had to do a cost breakdown of a deer shoulder mount. This was 1995 and a form was about 18.00 the cost to mount one deer was between 130 and 150 that is breaking down everything electric bill to paper towels the taxidermist has to pay for it all. It's just not form eye's and ear liners it all has to be payed to many taxidermist pay for it out of their pockets. Some shops can't charge the bigger prices because of the area's they live in I don't advertise on here so I won't post prices. But what it all boils down is find a taxidermist that does work you like at a price you can afford and go with that.

No matter where you go there you are.

I call BS on your BS call. The question was a life size red fox. Go look at the forms for them. They have really jacked up the last couple years. Used to be about the same as a deer head but now almost twice the price. Add the eyes, ear liners and an open mouth and you're looking at over $300 in costs.
