We have about 20 species of sparrows that either migrate thru the state or nest here in the summer. The nesting species are typically found in the prairie grasses which is a rapidly declining habitat. It was suggested by some that I not post the names and see how many could give correct IDs on these birds. These are all nesting birds here in South Dakota.

Big flocks right now are most likely Lapland longspurs, smaller flocks are more likely Horned larks or snow buntings.

I think Johnathan said they were a type of lark spur, I thought the colors were different
