It is and has been an important source of winter income for me my whole adult life. If I didn't turn a profit I would have to be doing something else that did.

I refuse to lose money trapping. I stopped fur trapping about 4 years ago. I do a fair amount of ADC work, but fur is a byproduct these days, unfortunately.

My mantra was always if the price dropped 50% from the year before that just meant I had to trap twice as many to maintain my lifestyle.

If we weren’t able to catch a good number of pretty decently priced coyotes with next to no expense I doubt we’d continue to do it. It’s definitely a fun hobby but unlike some other hobbies that don’t pay (golf) I think I’d spend my winter down time doing something else. I was just curious who in 2021 actually relied on fur income. Bought my first bran new truck with trapping money in the late 70s.I still trap, but do much better money wise with my Wildlife Nuisance Controll business.Better money in that these days than fur prices.Gotta go with the flow.

Some posts on another thread got me thinking, who actually traps with the money being important income? Fur trapping income alone, not counting nuisance work income has always been an important addition to household income. Many times I have used fur money to shingle the roof-change windows, build a deck, garage, and other renovations for my home, like new floors, bathroom etc. Fur money has also paid for traplines, many snowmachines and 4 wheelers and savings towards new vehicles for myself and the wife. It continues to be an important income supplement today even though I'm retired with a good pension.

You can easily make a small fortune with fur prices the way they are now... if you start with a large fortune. I started out with NUTHIN,,and will carefull planning,,I still have most of that left.
