Which could just be a perception due to the fact that they have a life span twice that of north American built vehicles.

No...it's because you have to have dealer repairs and there are no dealers in rural area for subarus

Really? My wife's everyday driver Ford Excursion built in the Louisville KY. Truck plant is 20 year old and has 385,000+ miles on it and counting. I can also work on it myself and get parts at the local auto parts stores.

I guess it's all perception.

Hang some hippie beads on the rear view mirror, and put a rainbow bumper sticker on the back and you will have a great trapping rig in disguise.

I have had a few Subarus in the past and bought a 2020 Forester. My son has a newer Legacy and we are about to replace a Volvo with a Crosstrek. My first Subaru was a 1988 XT6. 220000 trouble free miles.
I, knock on wood, have never had any issues with a Subaru.

On my 4th one since late 80's. Presently have '18 Forester 2.5I (cheapest trim) 50,000miles 9" clearance, all wheel drive keep good tires on it and will climb a tree. Don't worry about dealer location cause never have to go there . changing oil and filters don't get any simplier and cost to maintain is about 1/5 of my pickups. Cheap mileage (30mpg).

It's the Tacoma of suv wagons!!!

They have always been highly rated my consumer reports. The popular Forester, had oil consumption issues in the late 20teen, engines. A issue Subaru first denied, but later acknowledged. My niece bought a new one that fell into that category. It was a fight at first to get the Subaru dealer to acknowledge an issue. Also I know someone who bought a new Impreza (2013?). That engine started using oil right away. Subarus answer was to pay her the cost of one extra quart of oil between oil changes, wow. Finally a few years later a recall was officially issued, I believe they put a short block in her car. Then more recently, she developed tranny problems which were estimated at $1500 to change out some kind of electrical gizmo that controlled her cruise control and other functions. Apparently the car was ok to drive without the repair. Fast forward to a month ago, she was driving along and the head gasket blew, smoke everywhere. She parked it and bought a different vehicle. Remember, just 2 years ago they put in a short block.

They are great cars, for what they are intended for.

My wife has one, and loves it. I'd probably own one too, if they made one big enough, and with enough towing capacity

Where they shine is traction, and visibility. The opposed horizontal engine sits low allowing for a lower hood, while maintaining plenty of access to all the mechanicals. Full time all wheel drive is great, but, they do sit a bit low for some offroad or heavy snow situations.

They are a bit expensive, due to all the electronic gadgetry that most of us could easily do without.

I have seen a few with Semper Fi bumper stickers.

I have a late 90s Outback for a second vehicle. Manual transmission, all wheel drive. Great car if you are 4'10"- 85 lbs. The tilt wheel moves about 1/2" at most. Its a killer getting into and out of, as I found out mink road trapping this year. I see the newer models are more spacious. Other than that I like it.

Glad you're having good luck with it. Subarus are well known for their longevity, high miles and rust resistance.

Subarus rock. They'll go pretty much anywhere you need to go. They have some issues with head gaskets, mostly due to the boxer engine.

A Subaru will go a lot of places other 4 wheel drive vehicles won't.

The wife had a tuned Subaru Impreza STI, that was a fun car to drive, she's got a Jeep now... I prefer she has the Jeep.

Ask the Montana State Police. They've been driving them for years.

My dad lived in Montana and drove one for fifteen years, bought in 1989, with lots of long trips, and my neice is still driving it in Wenatchee.

Not ideal for every purpose, but when gas gets to 4 or 5 bucks a gallon, people think twice.

Surprised at all the good reviews. My buddy has owned and operated a garage for over 30 years. He's always told me not to buy one. They are one of his most worked on vehicles and not cheap to fix. Says once they get 100,000 miles be prepared for constant breakdowns.
