I surprised nobody chose a shoofly pie.
It's hard to beat the flavor and texture of a wet bottom shoofly pie, must be a regional thing.
Eh...wot?

Does chicken pot pie count? Yes. Cool. Then it's CPP, with black raspberry and blueberry for dessert!

There used to be a couple old farmers wives that brought pies into the salebarn cafe on days of a sale. Of course one was always trying to out due the other.
It was pie eaters heaven and I remember one of them would make a banana cream pie with a morang (sp?) That stood up about 3 inches.
Even tho I can get good pecan pie almost anywhere, I sure do miss those old gals. They'd patch or put buttons on a shirt if a guy needed and only ask for a few bucks.
Since that generation of farmers wives passed on getting great pie has been a lot tougher IMO anyway

When I first started planting some home orchard I asked my mom which were the best pie apples. She responded that I needed to ask Gerry Drew that as she was the community's best apple pie maker. So, according to Gerry (long since gone like all the good ol' farm ladies) Spitzenberg is the best followed by Northern Spy.
My own contribution to the apple pie question is...... that adding a few slices of fresh quince just improved any apple pie ever made.
My fear of moving stairs is escalating!
