Humpy, I agree with you on the nomenclature. The real "wild" ones we always call the trailing blackberries and they are truly superb. You may not know this, but they were used in breeding work that produced some notable domestics including the "Marionberry".

But here and there on our farm where they get water the Himalayas are pretty darn good! Fanny picked 5 flats so far for this Saturday. About 45 lbs.

Our wild ones have three leaves, old timers called them wild black raspberries or jaggerbushes.
I have a different strain I'm pretty sure was planted long ago. Leaf shape like jap maple, BIG dark berries and big sharp jaggers, I showed it to a Penn State grad nurseryman and he did not know the strain.

I prefer the wild berries less than the cultivated or hybrids. Still like em tho.
