"I use a spokeshave to thin the leather on the beaver around the cheeks and shoulders. Beaver are the hardest to do,because of all the shaving to thin the leather.I ship big beaver to the tannery,I do smaller beavers since they are not much shaving needed." I have a spoke shave and a real good draw knife but they dig. So playing around I came up with the round saw blade mounted ina vise. /that is the best that I have come up with for me. Now of course on fox and possum and the like nothing is needed more that just a good regular fleshing beam and knife

Beautiful work Boco. Those red fox especially look amazing. Are they all that light colored up your way?

No Lug some are dark cherry reds. The winter ones have a full veil so the guard hairs stand straight up,the veil(underfur on the neck and shoulders) is a lighter colour.

Boco, I wish you would do a video or a write up to teach us how to do that. They don't get any better than that. He can’t even post a you tube music video on here….But he can tan pelts with the best of them

Boco has done an extensive post on his tanning procedure which went on for many pages. This was a year or two ago, It was added to the archives I do believe. Very informative post it was too.

It's alright I guess. If you're into gorgeous looking pelts and all that.
I myself prefer the ones I've done that look like they got into a fight with a monkey with ADHD holding a samurai sword.
