Thank you for the reference mnsota!!

Those that experienced a similar situation during the fall of Saigon, How does the leaving behind of equipment compare. I understand technology is further along than 1975 but didn’t the US leave behind top of the line equipment then?

I’m not saying in either situation is it ideal. I would sure hope that our military equipment and personnel that the US has will take care of any “issues” that arise.

No matter what, I feel we have entered even further into a scary time for the future of our country.

afgan had an army of 300,000 as biden claimed a few weeks ago so equipment for an army of 300,000 was left behind other than 40 aircraft afgan pilots flew to Uzbekistan. I imagine those were fighter jets.

That pushed choppers off i carriers nto the ocean. Sure we left some stuff but they didn't come to America and attack civilians either. These will be use no only on out friends and intrest over seas but brought here as well. Add in all the reverse engineering and loss of top secret weapons systems and coms.

Sure seems like the explosives could have been used to demo the weapons and air strikes on the rest .
.
It is no accident and was planed and intentionally left operable. Heck our servalance plan that landed in China was smashed and cut to heck with hatches to destroy it and not alow the Chinese the technology access. It's standard operation to destroy equipment if it must be left.

The Afghan Army and the Taliban just pulled off the classic 3 card monte on the USA. Simple as that.
There isn't enough difference between Taliban and all of the other Afghan tribes, including the Afghan army to matter.
They are an amalgamation of many tribes. No central government for Thousands of years.
The ones who joined the army were not dedicated according to reports given by US trainers. They were in it for the paycheck, and likely as shills to facilitate the handing over of all of the fancy new toys to the Taliban once the US pulled out.
Too late now to do anything about it short of starting another war.

Mnsota's article shows what military equipment the US has provided to Afghan defense forces between 2003 and 2016.

If we left this equipment with the Afghan defense forces with the expectation they would use it to fight the Taliban, someone made a big error in judgment, but it's not as if we just left the equipment sitting on an airstrip or in a warehouse somewhere..

Still, 208 aircraft? What a colossal strategic blunder. Let's hope the Taliban doesn't have the expertise to keep them flying for long.

Good point, they may not be able to maintain nor obtain parts, it would be nice to hear what capabilities they have with aircraft by service members who worked with them in that regard.
The caveat here comes in the names of China,Russia or Iran,..they must be chomping at the bit to get a look at some of this stuff,.if the Taliban willing.

We act like we dont have the intelligence and capability to surgically blow these assets up.

(edit) I'm referring to aircraft and any heavy armament.

I think a classroom of 3rd graders could have came up with a better plan to leave Afghanistan. Unfortunately with the current administration there is no sense going back in to straighten things out either. The taliban or any other terrorist organization will never respect our president and would never back down. The way Biden talks it’s like he is outright negotiating with terrorists. It also looks like they’ve been tracking the talibans takeover for several months now and it appeared obvious.

I don’t understand why Biden doesn’t show the Taliban who’s boss, like he did Corn pop , or take them behind the school and kick their butt like he said he would do with Trump ?

But don’t worry, in a few years our idiot ruling class will get us into another war, and the American people will willingly sacrifice their sons and daughters.

The war you speak of will be much closer to home this time I'm afraid. Guess I better get back in shape. I was hoping if it broke loose it would before I was to old to be useful. And it's taken care of so my kids won't have to. I didn't think it would happen that way but now it's looking more likely.

I find myself wondering if the capabilities exist to remotely deactivate or destroy those helicopters planes and other equipment.

Drones and cruise missiles come to mind.

It's hard for me to imagine any aircraft in a combat zone without a thermite grenade on board. We all had them and used them at one time or another.

It will take a lot of maintenance to keep some of those birds operational but it isn't impossible.

I wonder about using drone strikes on remaining equipment once the 'evacuation' is abandoned.

At this point, it seems to me, that someone with a spine needs to put the fear of God into Pakistan to ensure all our citizens are allowed out.

A lot of those numbers were ghost soldiers used to generate kickback money to the corrupt leaders there like Afghan (Big Guys) just names getting paid so a few can pocket the money.

Why so little defense and so much surrender, with a few advisors and air power the Taliban would still be cave dwellers today.
