Part of the town I live in has been told to Evacuate due to an ammonia pipe line break. Pictures show the cloud about a mile out of town.

I'd be gittin'. That's some nasty stuff.

I would move out.

That happened years ago around here , when a train derailed with a tank car of ammonia..

when a medical waste recycling facility moved in to town when I was a kid people were all worried about it

my friends dad was the fire and rescue captain , he toured it and said nothing to worry about , you should be a 100 times more worried about the grain co-op north of town and how much anhydrous ammonia they store light breeze in the right direction and half of town is dead before we can even hardly warn you .

Someone at a gravel pit south east of town about 2 miles dug up an ammonia pipeline. We have some smart people around here.

Be safe and watch the weather!!! As said above it is dangerous. Look out for wind changes and get moving before the news tells the crowd to move. Fill up the gas tank, be prepared.......jk

Anhydrous ammonia bad news. Diluted ammonia by the atmosphere, potentially bad news. But you can't wait until you can't breath to decide to leave.

Well apparently it has dissipated now and the roads are back open.

I just went thru the area that the ammonia cloud crossed the highway south of town. That stuff did a number on the trees in that area, I can see where it could kill you real quick .

Seems to me lots of digging happens at gravel pits, also seems to me, a stupid place to run a pipeline. I guess you do have some smart people around there.....Not sure who is smarter the guy digging in a gravel pit or the genius that figured a gravel pit was a great place for any pipeline, let alone ammonia.

The pipe line was put in years before the gravel pit started up. The gravel pit is running out of land so I guess they were trying to get all the gravel they could before they close. There will be all kinds of lawsuits over this.

been a lot of dope fiends killed and injured stealing anhydrous ammonia to make meth. (anhydrous just means no water) that stuff is bad news.
