A local restaurant-bar in my area has a real redneck patriot owner. He had the Confederate along with the stars & stripes displayed in his place. The local United Way insisted that he take it down. He said he had a right to keep it if he chose to. They made a big stink about it and filed a number of complaints and continued to harass him. Even managed to get him shut down for a while while things were ironed out. He finally had enough. He filed a lawsuit against the women pushing this and the United Way.

I was told he won an undisclosed amount. I stopped giving to the United Way after that as did some of my friends.

To some the confederate flag is a symbol of Christianity, and the rainbow is God's sign of never flooding the world again. O ya , I guess gay used to mean happy.

Why get all worked up over it.
Its just another Jack,derived from the Union Jack which is a combination(union) of the English cross and the Scottish Jack.
Toss the English Jack and make your own like Canada did in '65

It was the Scottish saltire not the English jack.

The largest ethnic group in the south was the Scots Highlanders, Lowlanders and the Ulster Scots.

Heck, my own McLeod's Beat in Clarke county Alabama was known as little Scotland and gaelic was still spoken at the time of the war. To this day the majority of the surnames in the county are Scottish.

Most people that fly it are expressing a pride in the south and nothing more. I don't have a problem with that. Some people find it offensive, and I understand that too. I have a neighbor down south that flys it but I don't think he has a racist bone in his body. I choose not to fly it, partially because I'm really just a Yankee wannabe. But I have to confess, I sure do like southern culture. The old southern culture. Can't beat it.

The english cross only became the union jack when it incorporated the jack from the scottish flag.

To each his own. It certainly makes a statement.

I always thought it was just a symbol of Southern pride, maybe with a little anit-left sentiment sprinkled on. I never thought it was a symbol of racism.

I think most symbols of racism are invented to divide us.

Sadly, a lot of Americans find other, once venerated objects like Christmas trees, the American flag and crosses offensive too now.

My kind of humor there. Offend everyone equally, but without malice. I'm pretty bored with so many looking for some offense to get wrapped around the axle about. My wife is still on a hunt to find whomever scratched an FU on her truck bed above her "Honor our Vets" bumper sticker. Who does that stuff?

Speaking of equal opportunity offenders and in light of the recent NYC removal of a statue of Thomas Jefferson it has been brought to my attention the Mr Mohammed was a slave owner as well.

I had ancestors on both sides of that gunfight. Not sure where I would have landed. Probably just stayed in CO as my namesakes did. If I fly a flag I think it will be two of them. Old glory on top with the Gadson flag below it.

Why?? just as well fly the union jack British flag! Why???
