GFW (Gary) has a video on Facebook today explaining the Postponement announcement yesterday. I just looked and I do not see it on You Tube or the GFW website yet and I know lots of trappers are not on Facebook. Not sure if this will play if you are not on Facebook but here is the link: GFW Live Video 11/9/21I think this might work for everyone. I signed out of FB and the video still play for me but I did have to turn the audio on. Thanks for posting. Maybe not quite so much gloom and doom. ..don’t play drink every time he says “uhh” lol

bblwi….
Bryce… You are correct… The $20 coon market is gone and has been for a while… But there IS a coon market. Trevor Barnes and I are both buying coon in Wisconsin.
The coon need to be harvested for conservation purposes, why not make a few bucks and not waste the resource.
Richard

Yeah guys, go out and harvest those coons for conservation reasons and sell them so someone else can make a living.

Then don’t trap Dirt. It’s just like the vaccine. Personal choice. Pretty sure I will be forced or manipulated into taking the vaccine eventually. Here is a sign I have noticed the last few years; buyers and auctions begging trappers to trap. I have had a few myself. That is a sign prices have become unrealistically low.

Dirt here is the one I get a kick out of. "Premium for shearable beaver". Okay???????? SLT former VSL are shearable, but they will be sold for hatter prices. Even the perfect beaver unless it is dark will be sold for under 50 cents an inch. Get you some of that! Boco is the one that gives people unrealistic expectations, not me.

Premiums have been paid for shearable beaver now for the last few years. You ejits dont know the meaning of premium. It means more than non sharearable.
If you cant make any money with your beaver handling/harvesting/marketing methods learn when to trap, how to stretch, how to grade and where to sell,or quit.

So you are saying at the auction, you got the same or more for LT beaver in the same dmg/size grade as shearable(Semi,Hvy,Selct)?-I dont believe you.

There is NO ONE hear that will buy my pale beaver---I mean PAY for them-----Iam feeding the critters-----fur and all! Tom, You're a little to far south to have a marketable beaver for the fur business. There is NO ONE hear that will buy my pale beaver---I mean PAY for them-----Iam feeding the critters-----fur and all! Tom, Beaver from the southern United States are ONLY now used for hatters and the market for hatter beaver this year is almost gone. My understanding is hatter beaver will sell for $5 a lb. or even less this year, unless something dramatic occurs.

A typical dried and scrapped blanket beav weighs what, about 2 pounds or a little over...?

For some of us...that are pushing 60 years old (I'm 57)...we have likely seen our last fur boom. Even if another stretch of decent prices comes along we are gonna be too old to pile up the fur.
Sad...is what it is.
I disagree with that unless you are in bad shape at 60. Some guys in their 80's put up decent amounts of fur. Old Paul Millette was still trapping in the range of 150 beaver 50 otter and 200 marten when he was near 80.All in winter and all put up. A lot less than when he was 60 but still a good bit of fur. I know a few others that didnt really retire from commercial fur trapping until they were in or near their 80's,and many that did slow down at that age took on helpers or signed on as 02's with the person they sold their lines to,and stayed in the game.. Fancy that. The contrary turd disagrees. You’d disagree if someone told you the sky was blue.
