Back few years ago I trapping in the public land. About 1/2 to 3/4 of a mile away a small gas fired plant did heat treating.
So as I'm setting some traps at about 10 am, a large explosion went off. Ringing the woods and me. Past experience has told me, "hit the ground"!
I came out of the woods later to find everything is in tact. The ovens had not enough air to fuel mixture earlier to light. A little late by the operator.
This why for a lot of years returning to civilian life I wouldn't go to Forth of July fireworks. Those aerial BOOMERS are not nice.

I have seen plenty of scary things in towns, but never in the woods or on the ocean.

I wouldn't characterize this as "scary", but was certainly discomforting.
My cousin and I were coming off a north Idaho elk hunt. This was nearly 50 years ago. It was late at night, darker than the inside of a cow. Driving down the St. Joe River on a dirt road. In the headlights, the dirt all over the road was scuffed and rutted. Cousin Bob slowed the truck and we both noticed pretty good puddles of dark in the road. Among the dirt and the puddles (which turned out to be blood), there was a ghostly white item, almost looked like a plastic grocery bag. We stopped, and it was immediately apparent the almost-white item was a human hand. Very ragged skin at the wrist, with noticeable tendons stringing out. We picked it up and bagged it (pretty much ambient temperature; no body heat remaining) and headed on down the Joe. Few miles further on, we see flashing cop lights coming at warp speed up the river. We stopped, and flagged down the County Sheriff. Turns out, he was racing back up the road looking for the hand. He spun his truck around and raced down river ahead of us. Found out later that it was some hunters that were trying to load a balky horse. One of the guys apparently wrapped the horse's lead around his wrist and was trying to load the horse, when it severely balked and the rope pulled off the hand. We also found out that the doc's in town were unable to save the hand, as it had cooled too much to be viable.
Not too scary, but certainly a bit weird.

I hunted on a military base and the a10 warthogs coming in for target practice would get me by surprise
BRRRRRRRRRRTTTTT!
How many of you have found dead bodies?
I found a burned out car pushed way back on a logging road. but no discernible body inside. We called it in and got out quick.
