Ok so say you trying to make something that requires you to brace a 90 degree angle . How to you go about measuring and cutting that brace piece so it's a flush fit ? Is there a certain calculation you use or is that at least a tool I can use so I'm not making 20 cuts till I find the right angles and have a template?
Also any recommendations for a tool I can use to find angles of stuff I already made but can be use like flat on the ground instead of vertical? I've been using a combination square ( I think that's what it is) but wanted to know if there was something better
Sorry if it's a real basic question but I've been trying to find a video or something on the subject but guess I'm not wording it right

Any square placed on a line with both legs at equal distance will give you 45 degrees.

Well what if you need a brace for a more acute angle?

Im not much at drawing but you use a framing square. You should be able to look at the angle and know which line to draw

3/4/5 right triangle

just multiply

it works in any unit of length measurement

also A squared +B squared = C squared

the tool to find an angle is a protractor but a lot can be done with a level and tape measure.

To duplicate angles you want a sliding T-bevel. Also learn how to use a speed square and a framing square if your math skills are less than stellar,

Would be helpful if we knew what you were doing. They sell metal angle braces at Lowes. smile If you need something more complicated than that,,just remember that if two parallel lines are cut by a transversal,,the alternate interior angles are equal. grin

Thanks for the video that should help a ton but now I'm curious about the level and tape deal confused

you can also do a lot with Rise over run

say you have a roof that is 5:12 five inches up for every 12 inches of run flip it any way you want like danny shows in his drawing it works on a framing square there are charts with angle for rise over run

and here is a calculator

https://www.inchcalculator.com/rise-run-degrees-calculator/

you might want a book like this

https://www.amazon.com/Essential-Gu...g=1q3Bk&pd_rd_i=1565238915&psc=1

there used to be a carpenters pocket refrence , a little book full of tables

I found one called the roof framers bible it doesn't look quite the same as the litle refrence books that used to be.

So that's what those are for ! I legitimately had no clue shocked always figured they where just some kinda straight edge. And I think I'm half decent with a speed square . One of the guys in my welding class was a pipfitter and he taught me how to use one pretty decent. Framing squares however I know very little about

Lol I'd just like to try and get better when it comes to my carpentry and metal fab stuff. I can butt two things together and make stuff hold no problem but would really like the stuff I make to look nice ,, flushed up angle cuts and the like

You could also just hold the board up and mark it if you don't have the tools or the knowledge. Just saying, think simple.
