I heard it was the St. Regis Mohawks (from Canada) that were doing the spearing. Does anyone know for sure who is responsible?

In this day and age, how Indian do you have to be to spear fish and what delineates you as an Indian?

Don't know for sure, but this is what I read:

Well in the video it was NYS En Con seizing the fish so, they did not cross a US/Canada border...

Native American: a member of any of the indigenous peoples of North, Central, and South America, especially those indigenous to what is now the continental US. No I am not going to debate what is or isn't a Native American, I dislike this term and far prefer the Canadian designation: Members of the First Nation.

We can claim we are all the same but our government does not make it that way. In Wisconsin spear fishing begins with ice out and the spawning time when the fish are in the shallows.

In Wisconsin the Chippewas operate six hatchery's to restock lakes.

I am only siting facts to the best of my knowledge.

So the Government pits one group, through preferential treatment, against another and to speak out and go against the grain, garner's the racist label. I think we know who the real racist's and dividers are.

ENCON may have seized the fish from them at Constantia, but how do you conclude that they didn't come from Canada?

Where does this happen? I've never heard of this. I see the tribe spearing through the ice frequently, but I know of no bodies of water like you're describing.

The Chippewa Flowage.

They draw the Chippewa and Rainbow flowages down to where the fish get trapped in pools and the tribe comes to spear them?

Have you actually seen this in person? Or, just heard about it in the tavern?

In person. I don't drink. I've also seen a lot of muskies speared on Little St. Germain but it isn't drawn down.

Rat every nation we enter into treatites with are to be honored the same way. The treties we entered into with the Native Amerian Nations are with nations, not individuals. It has to be looked at from the legal perspective. Again we recognized tehm as nations within our nation, two seperate nations within the United States. Our government established this, in tis manner.

BT I get all that, still doesn't make it right. Treaties are changed all the time, but our government is to weak and afraid to do the right thing. They are a nation within a nation when it suits them and a citizen when it doesn't. On a side note, what % does one have to be to spear in Wis. 1/6th native american or can you just identify as such.

Hey Rt I agree. % is dependenton the tribe, I'll see what I can find out. Each can be different, LCO, Mole Lake, Bad Rivier, St. Croix, Lac Du Falmbeau, Red Cliff are teh six we deal with mostly in Northern WI.
