Problems man!

I’d take some advice if anyone wants to give any.

Engine went from running good, able to drive around the yard a bit and park it in the front for 30 mins. Then when I started it, it started fine and ran for a few seconds than seemed to lose power then shut off. I started it again and it ran very quiet as if it was low rpm’s then shut off after 5-10 seconds.
After about 10 restarts and it shutting down it finally won’t start again.

Problem didn’t end there!

I’ve cleaned many carburetors on many different small engines and am quite good at it…well, for bush fixes anyways lol. It’s Canada bro!

But this carb looks a smidge different than the ones I’m used to. I still went ahead and cleaned it and seen that one of the O rings has a knick in it. Well I’ll just turn it around and maybe it will be ok. LOL!

[Linked Image]

I put it back together and man there’s gas leaking out the bowl. Maybe if I quickly start the engine it will fix the leak. Haha! Nope! Nice try though dummy!

So I take the thing all apart again and realize the float needs to be aligned a certain way (male and female ends).
Ahhhh makes sense!

Put it back together, sweet no leaks! Try starting the engine, and it doesn’t even try to start. Almost as if there’s a dead battery.
Start taking stuff apart to get to the carb again and tons of gas pouring out the air filter. C’mon man!

Well when I took the carb apart the third time now, I got this white cover separated from the carb and found this second O ring on a part. Sweet, same size as the broken one. I’ll take this one and put it where the broken one is and put the broken O ring where this one is. That will solve my fuel issue leaking into my air filter!!! Ta Da!!

[Linked Image]

Got it put back together and the engine starts!! Puffing white smoke like CRAZY!!! Whole yard was like Cheech and Chong’s basement. Then the engine stalled. Started a few more times and ran about 10 seconds each time, then won’t start again.

No more gas in my air filter, but now I have gas in my oil. Like crazy!

I don’t know if these O rings prevent gas going into the oil and air filter, what do you guys think?

I went to a few places looking for new O rings and one place had something pretty close. Is close good enough?

Here’s a pic of them side by side.

[Linked Image]

Do you guys think that knick in the O ring is what’s causing the problem?

I haven’t tried the new O ring I was given yet. Didn’t want to put it all back together for it to flood my oil with gas again. Hoping I can get some proper O rings ordered tomorrow once I give them the model # of my lawn mower.

The dealer I bought the lawn mower from couldn’t help me other than sell me a new carburetor for $320. I just couldn’t do that. Mentally, not financially.

Maybe a bit of humour for you guys.

I ain’t laughin’ though.

Thanks!

Were is the goats when you need them.?
Can't you spend all your fox money from the auction on a new carb.

watch y-tube Steve's small engine repair for that fix, and the beer he is always sampling is great

I work at a golf course during the summer. We have a couple Husqvarna zero turn mowers, I'm sure there's a lot of home owners that will say they are great mowers, but we'll never buy another one to use on a golf course. I won't go into the specifics of my opinion, but i'm sure it's kind of like the Ford vs Chevy vs Dodge argument,

Anyway, we had one of our mowers do exactly what you've described..turned out to be just the fuel filter.

Dang JP, you got a dozen kids. Buy a couple of reel push mowers and tell them to share!

That Steve’s small engine saloon on YouTube is alright. Might watch a vid or two tomorrow.

I’ll try finding out how much a carb is on Amazon just to see how much the dealer close to home is gouging. But an o ring is like a tire on a vehicle. And my tire is FLAT!

Boco, you Indians are tougher in Ontario than here.

4fisher, I believe this will be my last husqvarna.

Scout1, lol ya they already do fight over who can use the weed eater and who can use the riding lawn mower. They think it’s fun. I see broken windows, weed eater beaten downspouts, a run over garden hose, and toy bits scattered over the yard if I let them cut the grass.
Sometimes it’s just easier if Dad does it. Lol

JP, dad has a husky and he was getting gas in oil often, he put a fuel line shutoff in and it stopped the problem. He would turn the fuel off when not using it. I'm not sure if this will help your problem or not. I have a John Deere that had bad orings on the jets and had the same problems your describing. I just ended up buying a replacement carb off of Amazon for 30 some bucks after taking it off every time I needed to use it.

Good to know! I’m surprised they don’t come with the fuel shutoff. I was surprised when I seen mine doesn’t have one. Had my son kink the line for 2 hours laugh

I was wanting a bagger for my old Craftsman rider for mulch. They want over $400. I doubt my Dad paid that for the mower when he bought it new.

change the oil and filter because the gas flowed through....smoke when burning is not a good thing
another Husky youtuber is Chickmecanic
she shows how to take that whole carb apart and the little set pin under the throat( second pic down) and the problems with crimping the O ring
the Husky part distributor is that warehouse on Higgins just down from the McPhillips casino for parts
the kit is 15$

this is where I would start , you definitely have too much fuel so likely bad needle and seat , possibly the oring 15 dollars for the rebuild is smart money

I would also drain the gas and make sure to use fresh with a stabilizer like startron

I talk with the local small engine shop owner a fair bit , he is addimate no matter what your story , it gets drained and new gas his gas he gets fresh every couple days , he has wasted far far to much time on bad gas

America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

You can cuss Huskys all you want, but if your having problems with the engine or carb on the engine, it ain't a husky problem! They all use the same engines, and when buying new, you can buy the engine combo you like. It comes down to fuel or spark. Mine was running weak, checked it out, and had a dead cylinder. Switched coils and the engine still had a dead cylinder, but was the other one now. O-rings are pretty precise, so the carb rebuild kit would be the way to go. When putting on an o-ring, always give it a light coat of oil. Pushing them in dry is what screws them up more than anything.

I use that and a old toro. The toro is a tank, well built easyish to take the deck off and no loose parts when you do. The husky is good for perfectly flat lawns and when you take the deck off there are a dozen parts in your hand, not user friendly at all but still runs so that is what I use at home.......jk

I agree with you that a fuel issue isn’t enough to knock a brand of machine.

And I’m not meaning to cuss Husqvarna. Just had more of a question about size difference in O rings and if a Knick in the O ring would lead to gas leaking into my oil. Mainly.

But there are other issues I have with the machine that make me want a different brand next time I’m shopping for a lawn mower.
Those issues are some of the welds on the mower deck have broken.

Reverse pedal doesn’t engage properly. Have to stomp on it a few times to get going in reverse.

Metal rod (don’t know the name for it) that you pull at the back to unlock the tires so you can push it is bent and doesn’t push in by hand anymore. Need to push the clutch in order to get the rod back in.

Oil filter is impossible to remove without making a mess of oil pouring onto the mower itself.

And the carb isn’t as accessible to take apart as some other small engines.

I also know life isn’t always peachy. And I’m ok with that.

I didn’t have any time to work on the mower today. Tomorrow the plan is to replace the fuel filter, clean the gas tank, clean the carb and use the two O rings that I was given that was very close to the same size. Might actually be the right O rings, just look different because I’m comparing new ones to used ones.? Add new oil and oil filter and add new gas with sea foam added.
We’ll see how she goes!

brake solvent the living daylights out of the carb
in picture two when the little ring is that pulls apart and there is a set needle in there, get some compressed air on the passage once you have it apart
sand is blocking it open

For the ones following or interested I got the lawn mower running. Runs a lot better too!

I ended up using one of the O rings I was given that looked a touch bigger. Used it to replace the broken one in the carburetor. Hope it holds up! Also cleaned the carb.

I also did an oil change and changed the oil filter.

And also replaced the fuel filter.

And I cleaned out the gas tank and filled it with fresh gas and added some sea foam to it.

And last but not least, I added a fuel shutoff valve.

[Linked Image]

You can easily tell what is new in the pic laugh

I cut the front yard and am pleased. Came in the house, and a few minutes later one of the kids came in and said “Dad, I think I found the problem with the lawn mower”. LOL

They gave me this.

[Linked Image]

I’ll just save that one for a mosquito free day!
