Actually, I haven't weighed it but it's less than my day gun. Heavy barrel, nonfluted .243 bolt action.

Wolf, if you are looking to build an accurate gun what you put in for a trigger is as important as the barrel. Don't skimp, IMHO a good trigger is going to run you somewhere in the neighborhood of 200 bucks up. I have a Timney Competition in the above rifle, I believe i got in on sale for 190. I have a Timney Impact in another AR that ran me 125. I wouldn't trade the Competiton for 3 of the Impacts. I have a Giesselle SSE two-stage trigger that is a thing of beauty in another lower, waiting for a permanent upper.

Hyperfire makes one fine trigger as well, I haven't tried one as I'm partial to drop-ins.

What Caliber are you looking to build Wolfie? .223/556?

Personally, I don't think the average AR 15 is a great coyote gun. I've talked to too many people who are shooting a lot of coyotes with thermals that are having too many runners. I'm still in load development on the 20 and already second-guessing. Oh well, if it doesn't do what I want it will make a fun pdog gun. I'm already thinking about a AR 10 in a .243 or similar. Problem with the AR 10s is now we are talking some weight.

Anyhow have fun and be wary of the rabbit hole lol.

Yeah learned about the trigger deal a while ago lol ! Had a spring kit in my current one and dropped it from the milspec 5.6 to 3 something and sweet lored you talking about nice to shoot ! Problem is the spring kit was too light to pop off steel cased ammo so had to put the old one back in but I know I'm definitely gonna be getting something nicer . Think $125 is gonna my limit though lol. Actually how light are you able to adjust your down to ?

And yes I'm looking at just a plane Jane .223wylde or 5.56 right now probably 1:8 twist.

Before I changed to a 4x acog from a 3x9x50 I had no problem hitting dimes at 100 with my 16". Now is quarters with the acog. Still dead coyote at 300. I got one of them big long heavy custom built bolt gun jobs in a 260 if I want to put each round in 1 elongated hole. The 16" is much nicer to pack and had the same results with smaller holes. Well it kills them bit don't hit the dirt instantly with the 5.56 like they do with the 260, 243, and 7mm08.

My triggers aren't adjustable, the Timney Competition is advertised at 3lbs, Timney Impact at 3-4 lbs and the Geisselle SSA 2 stage is advertised at 3 on the first stage and 1.75 on the second., I don't think you want to run one much lower than 3lbs on a single stage in an AR. More knowledgeable guys may have a different opinion. It's not only about tension, most if not all mis spec triggers have too much travel in them IMHO and they don't reset as fast as a good trigger will.

Don't rush out to buy a trigger, hopefully, you have access to a couple of good gun shops where you can try out different models and makes, and if your budget is 125 or so, then it is what it is. As you know if finances allow in the future it's a breeze to swap it out.

Have fun.

Best bang for the buck I have used for an AR trigger in both what's it's made of and quality. Right with that high dollar G brand if not better for $99. They were $89 when I bought mine.

I am sure it is heavy
heavy isn't bad , it just should be of benefit and worth it to the person carrying it.
It all comes down to what your goal and style of hunting is

AR-10s are definitely some weight

Now Have you seen Rugers new release ?
a 308 built on a nearly AR-15 scaled up for mag size chassis they are calling it the SFAR small Frame AR in 308

https://www.ruger.com/products/sfar/models.html

7.3 pounds for the 20 inch barrel model and 6.8 for the 16inch model

initial release is 308 only

308 still gets the question is 100fps worth 4 inches of barrel

https://rifleshooter.com/2014/12/30...arrel-length-versus-velocity-28-to-16-5/

in the past it was harder to get good numbers then several people did cut down tests same barrel for every shot same ammo just shortened barrel
