Jeff, I didn't know you are that far west, I guess I assumed you were way east, near the Canadian border. Yes I am 70 miles up the Yukon River from the mouth where it empties into the Bering Sea, on the west coast. Mosty treeless tundra except along the river. Eskimo country. White is over in Indian country.

How far up the Yukon does tidal influence reach ? Can notice the tide about 30 miles upriver. But on bad storms like this it pushes the water up as far as here and thats 70 miles up river.

I actually saw it on CNN a day before it started. So I went over to Windy.com to check it out. Now it’s all perto Rico in the news. The old mayor there said they have to put their electric grid under ground cuz over head is nuts……lol

if people in the L48 especially the news media saw what you go through and call a storm they would all have to realize their polar vortex , blablah named storm of the decade , 5th storm of the century in 7 years were not what they were hyping them up to be how sad would their reporting have to be , this is the worst storm in years and well folks it's not even a bad day for Alaska toughen up you L48 sissy's and take some lessons from weather that will actually kill you without 3 pre-existing conditions and a rotten tree you should have taken down 5 years ago above your mobile homes bedroom.
America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

If you really want to see wind, 70-100mph (and earthquakes thrown in) go out to Adak for a couple of weeks, I can guarantee that you will experience both.

I have always been curious to see the west coastal areas.
Besides my mountains of Montana, the AK range is also my favourite.
My mother taught biology as a professor at U of Fairbanks long ago. I inherited that love of biology and enjoying the topography of the land.
It must be fascinating indeed to be close to that western coast to observe the seas in those storms. The West coast of Alaska is pretty much a "mountain-free" zone! That is precisely what makes wind such an issue. There is nothing between you and "up wind" but a 3 strand barbed wire fence (and 2 strands are down!" Pete
