Yessir I usually have two traps and 5-6 snares per stop when I'm going after lynx. It sure pays off when you get multiple catches. Spotted this mess from a distance last night in the dark. Belisle traps are worth every last penny and the 18 i got last summer have paid them selves off multiple times already. Buying more traps is always a wise investment. Had another big male follow over half the line. He checked out every trap along the way but he knows traps by the looks of it. I'll have to get him in a snare or FH for sure

Got a weekend of fun and work coming up. First me and the boy will check his snares after work then pack up for a late night ride out to the camp. We will check some traps on the way out then do some fishing for bait in the morning then see what we can get done with starting a lynx line. stockpile some wood and Maybe fix a couple cut banks with snow so we can access some of the marten areas. Wont be long until its time to pull traps so now is the time to go hard. Looking forward to having Bobby along this weekend.

snared animals cant defend themselves against even a lowly mouse not to mention green belly. ^^This Plus snares are more indiscriminate, you need to be more discriminate about where you set them, it is more difficult to avoid nontargets in snares if there are nontargets in the area you are trapping. Honestly I would love to foothold in the cold temperatures they have up there and not have to constantly deal with freeze/thaw and wet snow. Snares are a good tool to have in your toolbag, and I wouldn't want to ever loose them, but honestly they generally stay in my toolbag and I haven't set one in several years, because I prefer footholds. Others prefer snares and seldom set footholds. Different strokes for different folks, but both have their advantages and disadvantages.

I totally disagree about snares being more indiscriminate than footholds. Properly set snares are much more species specific than footholds.
I also have had much less incidents of damage on animals which are frozen rock hard than I have on live animals. Live animals attract a lot of attention.
Forget that fear of gravity-get a little savagery in your life.

Trapping partner is running the line alone today. he just text me to say he picked up a wolf and 3 marten already out of the first 14 sets. Hes got a LONG ways to go so ive got high hopes for a pile of fur today. Ill skin my 7 thawed marten at home then take off to the cabin where he left the wolf and get that off the carcass too. Crazy to get so excited and im in my office and not even on the line. Man I love trapping!!

Happy Friday fellow trappers, lurkers and political pundits. Once the work day is done ill be on my way out for the weekend to check and maintain what's already set and get a lynx line going. Ill open some marten trails and get some gear out for them too. I Cant believe were already half way through January. Time to make hay while the sun is shining. Got to stock up the slush fund before trapping is done for the year. Looking forward to piling up some cats as I haven't put much effort towards them for a few seasons now. Ill be happy with what i can take but 50 is a nice goal with a limited amount of time left. Ill get all the main proven spots set up first and then explore with whatever time is left over. Hopefully my skidoo stays on the right side of the ice as the inland creeks and lakes stay much thinner than the main rivers. Ill most likely play it safe and just go lake to lake rather than following the creeks. I might put out a couple otter traps if time allows. Going to be one busy weekend for me but then again they're always busy so I guess it just business as usual. Mid January and still got the drive to expand the line so Im feeling good about that.
