We were in Ohio the other day and had to.stop to whiz the dogs..on public land..and this is what we saw. It was on a state management area..not national forest. I took these pics over 3 miles. Easy access....what we'd call a backroad.... We counted 5 active houses and multiple dams. Also saw an otter toilet but I had my finger over the lens accidentally and it didn't come out..I got a good pic of my fingerprint though.lol Sad thing is with beaver prices the last couple sales they'll probably be annihilated next fall.
IF IDIOTS GREW ON TREES THIS PLACE WOULD BE AN ORCHARD !

Nope. You need to be drawn. Pay a few for each site. And no way to know how many more are drawn for the site. Private land pile them up All in person now so you know who is on each place if you pay attention. Most spots are one permit omly, big lakes or bigger areas might have multiple. I had a two permit spot this year whichever for that spot made no sense other than to make sure it got trapped as it didn't last year.

For hatter Ohio beaver season comes in way too late and goes out way too early. Our best beavers are not ever prime compared to northern beaver. They are prime in our season, kits might be a bit thin right at the opener. We just dont get the density here which jas nothing to do with prime.

I always thought the season was too late , and too short. But I have no idea of the pressure on the beaver any more. I started when it was two beaver per season . Remember a few seasons later that we were allowed 8 muskrats accidentally caught in beaver traps also. Then it was no limit on beaver. Used to trap Ohio Power lands . Haven't trapped down there since 1986/7 season .

As others have mentioned, can’t trap beaver here on public land without a special permit. I was fortunate enough to draw a good area last season and had my best beaver season to date thanks to that. With that being said, it’s hard driving past beaver pond after beaver pond on public, and not being able to set traps. If you ask me, a lot of beaver areas never even get put in the drawing.
Ave don't go where the beaver don't flow

All but one of the years after they started the online drawings for beaver. It's been standing room only for the beaver drawings. Not sure about the others.

What in the blue blazes???? Can't trap on public land? You guys are screwed! We can trap everything but beaver an otter on public ground bere lther than the state parks that are closed to hunting. We don't have a lot of beaver at least in this corner of the state. Its in pockets being that SE of Chillicothe the true SE, is unglaciated and rhe beaver don't like this. Not that they arent in the hills as I've trapped several colonies at the top of em.

Wayne national forest is the biggest offender on that. In a way i don't mind it as i call them my reserve beaver and they'll push out new beaver to where i can trap em. Do have a few spots I trap normally on Wayne that really need the beaver gone though.

Down my way most public is Wayne, and I know some areas there that definitely could use a trapper. Like you said it is a catch 22, can’t trap them there, but the surrounding places you do trap get repopulated very quickly.
