After nephew posted a pick of his deer on his porch I decided to lay mine out and take pic . Didn’t start deer hunting until I was 21. We didn’t have deer in this part of the country back then. In fact I hunted 3 years before even seeing one in the woods . We had only 2 day season back then . This is all the bucks I’ve killed minus 2 I gave to people for rattling horns

Nice collection and to see how far Kentucky has come. I believe they are sitting at number four for Booners the past 4 years. Behind Ohio of course : )

Yes even tho the entire state has improved leaps and bounds the western part has 4-5 times the amount of deer population than my area.

He should have a BIG pile of horns ! He is a self proclaimed trophy hunter and 4 years ago he had killed "pushing" 400.

I don’t put a lot of stock in rankings in a book. I see at least 5-6 a year just in my county that will never be in a book. That old saying, “Loose lips sinks ships” applies to hunting properties as well. The few that put their names in and that didn’t own their own land lost their properties. Someone always has a bigger wallet than you, lol.

Great deer Jbyrd!! Like you I remember 2 tags. 1 buck and 1 doe…and there were only like 3-5 antlerless days a year. Just seeing a deer during hunting season was considered a great season. Killing one and your name was called out in church and over the intercom in school, lol. Times have surely changed.

Nephew this is probably the smallest deer I ever killed. But I’ll always consider this one a trophy ! Killed it opening day of 1996 season. Hopping to the stand . I was on crutches! Broke my leg mid October and had to hop almost 200 yards to get in my stand . Hunting boot on one foot and a size 14 4 buckle over shoe on the cast . 30 yards from my tree this stud walked up the logging road . I grunted and shot him at 15 yards still trotting straight at me !

If I could have afforded it it would’ve been mounted

My zone in the state had its first antlerless day 5-6 years ago. Eastern part still doesn’t have any

I see now why you plant, lol. Our entire season is antlerless and allowed 10 does each. I see 30-40 just riding through checking traps every morning.

I have killed at least one deer per season since 1970. Not very many trophy deer however. Having venison cube steak for supper.

Cuz,
You have got to put on & wear the britches in your house.

Didn't nephew Savell explain that yet?

My living room...a work in progress...have about 20 more "good ones" to fit in there somehow. Killed 1st buck in 1980 when I was 16. Gave away dozens of small racks to a friend that knaps flint/chert and makes cool knives and jewelry...

That deer center on your left wall is a dandy. Looks to be 165" or so?

Norwestalta,
No 165" there. The highest scorer of all those is less than 140". I guess it's an optical illusion.

Nice rack! FYI- Get some thin plastic stapled over that open insulation. Your lungs will thank you later on in life. Ask me how I know!
