I called a DNR FORSESTER yesterday just waiting for him to call back. I also seen the bad that they do leave stumps, break fence lines up just looks like a big mess.

ask about clean up , my aunt was looking at having hers done then she saw the awful mess they left on the neighboring property and was glad she didn't.

piles of tops and brush everywhere just were it fell and when they could only get one section out of a tree all the rest was left were it fell

then if they did bring it to the pile and the truck didn't like it anything left was just discarded there

couldn't even walk a lot of that property afterwards

the canopy was thinner , the ground was a mess

for the mess you will have left to clean up you could just cut it yourself starting with dead wood , anything in the way and then crooked and damaged trees , leave just brush piles

a tractor makes short work of dragging the logs out when the ground is frozen unless your place is steep

Around here they are left to rot or cut for firewood by landowner.

Typically in a woodlot nobody cleans up the branches mother nature takes them back over a period of years and they are good for wildlife and regeneration of the forest. If you want them cleaned up it will take the profit for the logger out of the job so finding someone to do it will be difficult.

I don't disagree but when a property owner is looking to "clean out their woods" , that wasn't what they had in mind.

they think trees thinned out and gone

they saw the park get logged and didn't realize that a lot extra was paid to have all the tops chipped and the woods looks so nice with a carpet of wood chips and not a mess of tangled tops everywhere.

it's like asking if you want me to de clutter your house , then I come in grab stuff from everywhere smash it on the carpet and say see all your shelves and surfaces are de-cluttered.

they are thinking you have the machine you could make piles of tops and that your hauling the logs away they don't typically realize your hauling 20% of what is cut away and leaving the rest where it fell.

I get you have to make time to make money , it just wasn't what they were hoping for in most cases so that reality needs to get communicated and communicating that was all that post was.

generally yours , that is why I said it may not be any more work to just do it all yourself a few trees at a time

besides all the horror stories I think OP should do some serious thinking on what he wants out of his land.

Just worried about the money right now?
want to manage for long term continuous benefits?
want to manage for wildlife?

these 3 are in conflict with each other.

Most foresters suffer from boards and cords mentality. If your concerned about wildlife and a healthy ecosystem then a consultation with a biologist and a ecologist would be in order too.

I have had the DNR forester in my place along with others who focus is on other things and what info and advice you get is staggering.

I'm glad I ignored the forester.

My neighbor had his place logged. They were only supposed to gut certain size. They took anything and the sherrif had to cite them for cutting my line fence and trying to cut all of the line trees which were Huge Oak. I stopped them or they would have.

God please keep they 19 fallen UBB miners out of trouble up there.

8 to 10 inches??? No timber value. You will likely have to pay someone to do it or do it yourself. Unless you can find a firewood guy willing to do it.

Second the skidding by horses. I was amazed.

I cut 20some that were threats to buildings.
Would love to have a pro mark the rest of the culls.
Farmer Dan if you ever venture to Butler Co.
I'd give you a few traps for your time.
No money in timber here, just interest in the health.

I sold one 8' butt for a grand.
Therefor all butts are worth a grand right?
LOL
