There are nine more beavers in Yellowstone. No elk or deer and a lot less foxes but the introduction of the wolf has had a cascading effect. Yep the destruction of the entire wildlife population except beavers. What a success story.

even if they did allow hunting that is no guarantee that hunting would have the same effect as the wolves did.
lots of differences, humans want to shoot the big bulls (antler obsession) and would most likely not harvest the same amounts as the wolves do.

All we have to do is look at the failure that is modern whitetail deer management. The most managed wildlife out there. Deer in many areas of its range are way over populated even tho they are hunted. In these areas deer negatively alter the ecosystem by over grazing.
I live in one of these areas, a white oak seedling has zero chance of survival unless it is protected from over browsing by the 4 legged locust that is our deer herd.
Not enough deer are harvested and the population remains several times higher.

To a person ignorant of nature, his country stroll is a walk through a gallery filled with wonderful works of art with their faces turned to the wall

I believe your are confused regarding management versus protection. Make getting a buck tag dependent on harvesting a doe or two first. Give out the doe tags with the purchase of a buck tag. Deer are protected, not managed, the way they are because they are a cash cow for state wildlife departments.

Open up Yellowstone cow tags to over the counter until you've hit your quota for management. I bet they couldn't print the tags fast enough.

There is a benefit to this.

So after reading the article a couple things stand out. Wolves kill elk to eat, but leave plenty for bears emerging from hibernation. So they kill and get a meal out of it and move on to kill again for just another meal.

It’s also implied that management of a species is needed, like every sportsman doesn’t already know that. Elk needed managed, but instead of making millions by offering tags to hunters to shoot a famed elk in Yellowstone, they spent millions, which at first glance seems to have reduced elk numbers. What’s yet to be seen is how low the numbers will go and what else they’ll reduce…cattle, sheep, etc.

Looks like they’re going to try the same thing in NC. I just hope they don’t roam to far South, lol. If so Swamp may start skinning “coyotes” lol.

Ha...they'll get to you and that fine big buck population before they reach me and these flatwoods pine goats.

If they had any brains they would set a population goal and set a hunting/ trapping season for the surplus leave it play out in court BEFORE they throw your taxpayer dollers into it At least you wouldn't see it in like forever
