Let's not forget that in the late 1700's and early 1800's And during the War of 1812 , the USA was fighting against the Muslims that were attacking our ships and taking our sailors as slaves.
That's when the United States Marines were formed and became Leathernecks !

Boco's revisionist Canadian history can be refuted. The Canadians were bit players, a sideshow in the War of 1812.
That war was fought to a military draw between the US and Britain, mainly because Britain was occupied in Europe.
But the US achieved its strategic objectives of being recognized as a sovereign power and halting the kidnapping of American seamen to serve on British vessels. The Canadians won nothing except continued domination by Britain.
