The plan was watch the doe' and see if one of the bucks that have disappeared would show up. So we took the x bow and his compound since hs limit now is 20 yards with his compound and 50 with the x bow. A small doe came in got to 20 yards milled around and bedded down at 34 yards for an hour and 10 min. Then she got up for a bit and bedded at 15 yards for 20 min. He decided he would shoot her with his compound so I took the x bow and gave him his compound I had hung on the tree and raised the shooting rail out of his way all without spooking her. When she stood up he drew and she turned away and he didn't have a shot. He held it tell I told him to let down knowing his shot would be very bad holding any longer. That happend another time but on the 3rd time she was walking stoped her with a bleat and she stoped behing a maple branch. She was at 17 yards and he shot , ther was a loud crack at impact and she ran off. BUT didnt crash like with a good shot. Instead a few minutes after the shot I could see glimpses of her walking around right at the limit of my sight in the brush. Gave it 15min then got down and checked the arrow. Smears of blood on the fetching but not down the arrow but good blood trail on the ground. Waited a few more minutes and had him track it( learning keep walking right on the track not off to the side grr) That was an easy track but halfway to the deer she started kicking and flopping so we knew where she was and she was done when we got to her.. Turns out she was hit in neck just below the head and out half way down the neck. It clipped the spine but not enough to drop her. So he got his first bow kill his 16th deer at 13 years old. It sucks his shot was off some but the deer didn't make it any further than a heart shot deer would have. I think his shot was off from being tired from draw and holding 3 times, excitement and he shot from sitting and his top limb hit the tree when he drew and or he could have had some deflection off the small maple branch. I wouldn't let him hunt with his bow untill he was shooting up to my standards and he has been exceeding them. Regardless he got his first bow kill 3rd deer of the year and has been blessed and never shot a deer he has not recovered. It has been a great year. Who knows maybe I may deer hunt some this year for the first time in over 5 years. But probably not Edit. I did get it on video but my phone Camara sucks and I was also a bit shaky. Need to get a Camara made for it I guess. First time out of 29 deer the boy have shot and I don't know how many my daughter shot that I even had it occurr to me to film befor they shoot. Normally its an after though I should have tried to get that on Camara.

Way to go stack em up , PF get yourself out there and hunt you don’t get any younger. Legally does a 13 year old have to be escorted by an adult to hunt think that’s how the law reads over here During youth season it says hunter must be accompanied by an adult. Says nothing I have seen yet in the regular season. I agree with that for 99.9% of youths under 13 or so. But my boys only need me to make sure they get in theiemr stands safely especially climbers and to drag them out. And my boys each drugs one of their own deer this year and the boy gutted his own with limited help today. He also did a lot of the butchering.

Good job, you guys! Had to be exciting for you both.
I'm just happy to be here! Today I'm as young as I'll ever be and and older than I've ever been before!
