know some dislike trail cameras, but there’s a few like me that really enjoy them.
Here’s some stills I took off a video I shot of a slightly piebald fawn last year.

I’m fairly certain this is him this year.

We have a no kill order out on him just to see what he will mature in to, if he stays on the property.

If someone is for it someone’s against its been that way forever. No pic is going to guarantee you that animal will be there when you are.

I like them for all of your same reasons I just don’t get possessed with a couple of bucks that show on camera. They are a heck of a tool for after season and to see all the nocturnal ones you never lay eyes on

The deer are fun but I got mine really for trapping footage. 11/15 is coming and I can’t wait to try some different things with them.

WB,
I got pics of a buck fawn this fall that has similar white markings. A little extra white on flanks and snout on both sides. I hope the little guy survives to see what he grows in to.

Trail cameras arent really what people complain about...its really the the mindset of a certain type of person that run them that people grumble about.

I generally like them for doing nuisance work and some scouting purposes. But they are giant jinxes anytime I try to set traps when they are present unless its cage traps on nuisance jobs!

Coyotes shy away from my Bushnell cams big time.

See the deer density numbers? I'm in the northern part of the state. We don't have many deer but we have some monster deer if you can lay eyes on them. Cameras give me hope.

I like trail cams for all sorts of cool pics and videos you get, plus buck photos as well. I have a file on my computer just made up of crazy an odd photos that I have gotten from cameras.

I run 8 cams when I’m trapping then I leave them out until spring to see what pics I can get. A valuable tool when used right my landowners like to see what’s out there I can give them informed sighting of deer for the ones that are into that activity. I know where my civet population is at that the landowners never knew they even had any.

All around you know what you’re dealing with during that season you do see the strangest things you don’t expect to see in the river breaks.

That’s interesting. I use them quite a bit trapping and really enjoy seeing the catch or the working of the set. I’ve added a set on circling coyotes before and end up catching them. These emit no light at night, so no avoidance from the cameras.

Don’t quite understand this post. I’m fairly confident I’ll see him this year and hopefully video him. Also hoping he sticks around a while, he stuck it out through his first year so we’ll see. If not, it’s still cool getting pics of him. He’s already moved 1.5 miles from the back to the front within 500yds of where I videoed him as a fawn last year.

Yes sir! They’re cool to capture and even cooler if they stick around and you can watch them grow.

Just saying I don’t see what’s to be against about using cams it’s not a guarantee that deer will always be there in many cases. Nothing to do with your post just some folks have limited acres to hunt if you see it they may not get it. Like said many deer move out for the rut.

Oh yeah, we’re seeing the “rut dispersal” now. I got lucky to see most of the deer I’ve posted from the stand, but unfortunately no shots. One left and another cam back after a 2 week vacation. Right now I’m waiting to see what filters in.
Yes, I am beyond blessed/lucky to be able to have 2500ac as my hunting grounds. I don’t mean to boast or brag, just trying to share some of the wildlife that calls it home for certain times of the year. I also understand the odds of taking a true mature buck are never in my favor, lol. Even though this is a working plantation, they get real smart at 4.5 years old! My only saving grace is they dumb down a little during the rut! But, it’s difficult to get them to slow down for a bow shot during that time too!

A camera on the right scrape(s) this time of year is my favorite. Can get pics of nearly every buck....and many you'll never see again, but it is exciting to know they are there. Makes the decision of getting out bed to go sit in a tree much easier to make...lol

Trail cams are are very touchy subject here in the west. I see the pros and cons. I've been on the Arizona strip where water is limited and a single tank (man mad water catchment) will have 25 or more trail cams. That's a lot of people checking cams that can disrupt wildlife visiting the tank plus is a headache for law enforcement who have to deal with people fighting over cameras being messed with. But the pro is most big deer are seen which makes it easier for people to pass up smaller deer in hopes of getting one of the giants the area is known for. It also helps deter poachers because if a deer does get poached, and claimed to be killed in an easy to draw unit, someone will recognize it.
For trapping, I use them mainly to identify trap thieves. Camera on the set, leading to the set, and one where I park my vehicle. What socks is we have a "trail cam season" and I can't put any cams out until January 1st.
But I agree with most. Trail cameras don't help with killing, especially in the west where most of our animals big game species aren't doing the same thing every day. I can have a deer visit a spring one day at noon and not see him again for a couple weeks and this time he is visiting at midnight. They just let you know what is in the unit, and what potentially you could get.

If traps work like the Antis say......I would have no fingers.

I was shocked just how spooky the deer are in MO for not having a lot of pressure in that area for this early in the season not a lot of pressure last rifle season either little pressure with it being private cabins all around us with only a few hunters.

It just seems like they know if something is up wind or no wind they seem to know. You check out one deer then look back and the following one has a guy pegged 50 yards away. Stood behind a couple cedar trees and the boss doe knew I was there it was amazing. I could have shot her or the other 3 with her but no desire to get another doe at this time.

3 oaks on that private road will get a tree stand next week will see if that helps me out or just helps them again. LOL They run that road like a deer trail transitioning to some low country for the evening then come back the same way.

I have 16,000+ trail cam pics from trapping season and 555 videos until Microsoft finds a way to erase them with their worthless updates. I need to go through and dump the worthless photos but that would take weeks thinning out the bad pics. I’ve already deleted thousands of “dancing weeds” already.
