I think antler restrictions became the death nail of running deer with dogs. Walker dogs would run a deer plumb out of the county. The houndsmen I knew preferred beagles and as a hunter I did too. Yup, we started with the big hounds and curs. Mostly trash running coonhounds. After hunting deer before lunch and hounds the rest of the day we switched over to beagles and never looked back. We could have the beagles in the truck and hunt deer slipping back in during the afternoon.

Around here, you mostly ride up and down the roads trying to get in front of GPS collared dogs, and shoot the deer as they cross a road. Not exactly the same as what ya'll are picturing. That’s how I pictured it! Like a deer drive with humans, but get to listen to dogs working. Sounds like a good time. Trust me, it's nothing like a deer drive with humans. You are thinking it's more like rabbit hunting. Not even close. Especially with hounds.

we had 50 tags at deer camp this year , had we filled them all we would have needed a trailer like that
America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

Spike369 , I obey game laws. Nobody knows better than me that no matter where you release your dogs they may end up on private property where you have no permission. I have never killed an animal on private property I did not have permission on. IMO if subsidies are paid with tax dollars to that landowner it should be legal but it is not. Like I said, I obey the law. Here in KS you can get a trespassing ticket if your dog tracks an animal onto private property. The landowner is obligated to let you retrieve your dog. The dog owner must make a reasonable attempt to contact the landowner first. I personally have never been ticketed but have listened (for a minute) to someone upset that my dog was on their property. I have always made every attempt to keep my dogs off property where they were not wanted.
Those who would give up essential liberty, to purchase a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety. Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790)

I have hunted with hounds a lot. Owned quite a few. Had to break pups from chasing deer as not legal anyplace I hunted. I sure would like to deer hunt with them at least once. Arkansas has some non-quota deer dogging on public land. A group from down my way go every year. They just headed out for there yesterday. That pic of a trailer load of deer is BS.

That's the way it's done these days now that all the dogs have GPS collars and you can see right on a big screen in your truck exactly where your dogs are. I've never done it myself but I have seen it and been around it. I have no interest in doing it once I saw it.

Deer, bear, and hog hunting with GPS-collared dogs. It has cheapened the excitement of listening to the race. The old timer houndsmen despise those tracking electronics, but respect the hound control aspect of the collars.

Here Land leasing killed deer hunting with dogs. When I grew up every one hunted with dogs. But as soon as hunting leases started it died. People get real mad when your dogs run a deer on their deer lease. They would even shoot you dogs and that cause more problems than you can imagine. Now all of the older hunters have died out it is a thing of the past. Yup, used to be you didn't need to own thousands of acres to run dogs. Because all the landowners were related or knew each other well it was a cooperative effort to put deer drives. We pretty much shared things like that back then. Not so now.

Still legal in some parts of Arkansas. This pic was from last week and made it's way around fb and got a lot of folks upset. Seems these guys are from out of state (FL) and come up and kill a bunch every year. Wow! It would be hard to find people to give that many deer away to. Proof that that practice needs some sort of regulation. Looking at some wanton waste there.
If you are better off now than you were 4 years ago, you're probably an illegal immigrant.
