I’ve killed around a dozen banded birds and photographed probably close to a 200 more. Was involved in Piping Plover research for many years and easiest way to read the band was to photograph them.
Goose pic all 6 birds are banded.

Funniest band story was in college we found a roadkill Peregrine falcon, took band off and sent it to the bird banding lab (didn’t know to call them in back then) and said we had shot a banded mallard with the enclosed band…..never did hear back which was probably a good thing.

wait one moment, how did that Elegant Tern show up....not in SD at least.
and yes the leg bands on shorebirds is striking especially when you see one 2500 miles outside of it's range like we did on a Piping plover

Northof50….that’s a Royal Tern from the Florida coast.

the gonydeal angle just did not show well.....well time to go to the Baja for it's relative picture
