No snow like they promised but everything everything is glazed over with ice. Mr. Otter insulted me again today by popping up on the ice while I was checking traps. He's keeping the ice open around the lodge making it difficult for me to get a set in....but I got a plan... Off to check my short run of land sets. Hope to see some spots today!

There is lots of otter sign here but I never set for them. It looks like the grey fox moved here last night and I am hoping the cats will today with this front coming in. I will run the Beaver line tomorrow and see how that pans out.

No spots today, good day to stay inside and clean up the shop. I did discover this afternoon why the ice around the old lodge remains open. Not only is it the otter but it's built over a spring! I put on my chest waders and almost went for a swim when I discovered the spring! The ice is only a half inch thick so it won't support me for a few more days anyways. Once the ice gets thicker, I think I'll drop a baited 330 under the ice and hope he goes for it. Meanwhile all I can do is cuss and remind him he's #1. wink

I think the cat only went maybe 25# not a very big cat. The coon was probably bigger.

38" to 40" to the base of the tail,if it was in that 25 lbs range it probably is 42" to 43".

Did not measure. Sorry didn't read it in inches. Going to have to throw a tape on him. I haven't caught a lot of cats. Probably have release more than I have kept. I have more issues catching them to early in coyote sets.

Tried a catch pole one time and had to much trouble. I use a big tote now. Fun to bring someone with that has never been that close to a growling cat.

Catchpoles or a tote? Old Dead Coyote showed me how to just grab them quick by the scruff of the neck, stretch them out and release them. The secret after they are released if to give them a good heave so they don't try to crawl up your pant leg afterwards.
