I have half dozen MB 450’s. Now that my shed is complete and my gear is more organized I wonder if I should get any more and prep them for fall. I also have DP’s. I have about six older models that I don’t really wanna use for land because they don’t have the cast jaws.
I really don’t want to buy more than I will actually use but now that I’m getting better at making sets I might want to bounce around more and have them if I need them. I’m not a full time trapper like a lot of you guys but I feel like I should have more than six. Also I’m not sure about the benefit of offset jaws vs closed . I read that they just provide a higher lockup and aren’t necessarily better for the animals comfort.

If a spot is good, I like to make 2 sets anyway. A dozen traps goes pretty quick.

I have nothing clever to put here.

If 6 traps is enough, what happens when you misplaced one?

Get more traps than you think you will ever need they won’t go bad if they don’t get set every year and as momma always said better to have and not need as to need and not have lol I’ve also sent you a PM thanks John

Yes, you need more traps! As you get better at it, you're going to want to set more. Start with another dozen and maybe work your way up from there if needed.

Depends on how much land you have to trap, population of animals to target and how much time you have to trap.
25 or 30 traps in half decent fur grounds should keep a hobby(part time) trapper busy.

trapaholic here, yes of course you need more. Really it depends on your outlook, they are not going to get any cheaper and you don't need the super dooper high priced one. Dukes work for me......jk

I would get slightly more traps than you think you will want to set. That way you can have them prepped and ready, if you decide to use them.

Right now, used traps are dirt cheap and plentiful. Low fur prices and the aging out of many trappers has flooded the market. You need to look them over well still though.

Craigslist, Facebook Marketplace and small local, farm auctions are good places to look for used traps.

I like traps, but prefer collecting axes, hatchets and cleavers more instead. That does not mean I always pass up a good deal or interesting trap.

Since when did people start putting a count on them before they are ready to quit?
