Maybe I am missing something, but it sure sounds like the sportsmen and women are left with an empty plate, but holding the bill. Sure easy when you take them out of the equation.

I have my doubts about how effective mediation, both in dollars and results, will be in securing a compromise on wolves in this state; but if it takes wolves out of the hands of the feds and judges and brings them back in the hands of Wisconsin, I'm willing to give it a try..

Ever wonder why our agencies are broke. See exhibit A.

Below is a pretty good read on science and wolf management. Glad they took the time to get it published to refute the bad information out there. You might even recognize one of the contributing fellows. Wolf ScienceMy favorite part of the conclusion— Faulty or biased science, regardless of the directionality of the error, is harmful to policy decisions, and policy recommendations based on such science cannot be considered “precautionary”. Furthermore, “precautionary” itself implies a value judgment that is defined by policy, not science. The role of science is to provide robust, reliable information, not to define the directionality or desired level of precaution. Even though Nathan doesn’t work for WI, glad to see him having a positive impact!

If Walz gets into the White House it'll probably make it harder for us in the midwest to get a wolf season.

I miss him in Wi. He knows his stuff. WI got to feel his absence this spring when they shut down the otter season early. I really doubt it happens with him in the meeting. Frankly he would have supported an increase in quota had the user groups asked for it and we would have never been in that situation. They didn’t increase the quota at the last DNR Furbearer Advisory meeting this year. So when guys go out and kill a bunch of otter, we will likely see the same thing next spring.
