When my wife and I got together she knew my pursuits. Her dad was basically like me.
The only thing she had to get used to was I was into archery and her dad wasn't.
She has planned stuff during hunting season that I just don't show up for. She's usually not happy with me, but she gets over it pretty quick.
My wife is big for putting things on a calendar and not telling me about them. I usually tell her when I have something to do.
My wife drives very little anymore so I try to be around when she needs to go somewhere.
As for asking permission neither of us do that unless it's for something big. Generally it's just coordinating schedules.

Angela summed up a good working relationship.
She's right, the ladies do tend to keep a better calender while we menfolk tend to be more focused one day at a time. Look a squirrel, lol.
One year I wrote "TRAPPING" on the calendar every day the season was open. She wasn't amused. But, I trapped almost every day that year, except when I was sick.

I can’t wrap my head around something and can’t seem to shake it.
I’ve got a couple of hunting and fishing buddies that have to ‘ask permission’ if they can go hunt or fish. If the wife complains too much, they’ll bow out or cancel. Just can’t fathom this.
I spend time with my wife during the offseason and often do things that wouldn’t be high on my list like an occasional road trip to a winery and stuff like that, but she knows that Spring time is turkey hunting, shad runs, crappie fishing and bass spawning time. Fall is dove, archery, ML, duck season and checking traps. She doesn’t make any plans for us during these seasons and just assumes that I’m outdoors. She’s never made a face or complained.
I will say I’ve always made Holidays a family priority and always put kids’ school and sports first, but outside of that, I’m outside when I need to be.
Any of y’all deal with this kind of thing at home or with friends?? Just sounds like they have different priorities then you do, it’s not all that uncommon, you make allowances for those you love just as they do for you, or that’s the way it’s supposed to work anyways sadly there are way to many that have been brought up believing that what they believe in is the only right and proper thing and it’s up to them to put you on the proper path To me being whipped means your letting your wife/husband or significant other Run your life and dictate what you can and can’t do, such as you can’t own a gun anymore, can’t hunt/fish/trap or watch sports ect. Or you have to change your views on what you support and stand for to me that being whipped My family has always known where I stand and what I support and after all these years they know I am unlikely to change my mind, but I don’t mind a good argument and they know their free to try and change my mind and a few time they have managed to do so but not often, they also know I will support their right to believe what they want even if I don’t believe as they do They also know they will get an argument if they bring it up and try to change my mind

What hacks my missus off is how she keeps her calender and from time to time lays it all out for me in some long winded conversation just to have me come along a day or two later and ask for a confirmation on a specific date. Says I don't listen or something, lol. I just need a confirmation that nothings changed. this is a male brain female brain thing. All I need is the information. My wife will talk in circles for the equivalent of 5 pages. All I need is the equivalent of 2 or 3 sentences out of that. I have to try to sift through all the useless info and pick out the little that's needed. i also have a very short attention span and have had the ADHD lable since I was a kid.. I only need the info that's relevant not the circular story. She used to get mad when I would ask for the condensed version. Now it's a deep breath brain resets and I get a much shorter version. still more than needed but considerably shorter. Don't get mad smash men and women are different it's OK to to talk and point those things out. Understanding the difrences and how to address them best on both sides make for those 65 year marriages instead of the working on my 5th x wife. Full disclosure this mis my 20th year married and we dated for 8 years before that. My daughter was 2 and our flower girl in our wedding. so working on geting to the 50 year anniversary and 60 after that I'd I live long enough. Keith is right. A man has to be a man and lead, set boundaries, & not put up with the crap test women try and check that quickly. otherwise She will see the man as weak and quickly loose respect for him. typically that lead to cheating and divorce in today's 20 to 40 year old age bracket. ladies want a strong man as a provider and protector regardless of WHaT the feminist try to claim. it's how they are made. Now that's not a tyrant being a man is not being a tyrant. A tyrant is actually a very weak male. A Man knows how to be strong and when to be soft, understanding and admit and apologize when he is wrong. Feminist will end up alone child less and miserable with their cats. They buy the lie of not needing or wanting a man and it's to late by the time they figure it out. That Biological clock doesn't stop.

My buddy went on a fishing trip once with his old boat. He had been saving for a new boat and had his cash in his sock drawer or whatever. When he got back from fishing his gf had bought all new furniture and his cash was missing out of his sock drawer. He called her parents and told them to get ready b/c her and all her stuff would be there in about an hour. lol. He handled that like a man should. No way that was going to work out no reason to wast any more time on her and move on.

My ex loved eatin fresh fish and wild game so she never complained at all. Occasionally a mess of traps or a new gun would git her riled up but the first time I'd sell fur or feed the family from that purchase we were good.
