We started the day at 12 degrees. I used a masonry bit and a pick ax to make all sets. I am sure we will have more than a few raccoons and possum to thin out. We are going to find out if the local coyotes will tolerate the Michigan waxed sand mixed with the drips of snot that were ever present throughout the day. Definitely feeling fat and old by the time we got back to the hotel. I will post end of the day picks if we have any success tomorrow. Supposed to be 16 degrees tonight, I would imagine these southern critters will probably be hunkered down. Guessing it will be a few days before our whole line is in.

Supposed to snow on Thursday. Pretty sure the town will shut down. Seems people just stay home when it's cold or snowy down here.

Probably not like they will further down here in my part of Texas (NE)
Even if you want to get out in it you are risking the idiots who have no idea how to drive in it running over you wink

Luckily when it does show up here it only lasts a few days and things are back to normal

I grew up in northeast Texas. Didn’t trap then but always hunted. Seems like the cold got them moving good, but it was the ice storms that would make them hunker down. Have to agree with BTLowry about folks not knowing how to drive in the snow and ice. lol.

Pretty dismal results today - coons. We continued to set traps and spent a little time checking out some wild pig sign as that's not something we're familiar with, might see if we can get one to step in a k9junior. I would imagine tomorrow will be a little more productive but guessing the 2 inches of snow will show us some walk bies.

K9 jr will hold a sholt but pigs over 30lbs pull out pretty easy. I had two on my line today.

Caught and held an 80 lb sow last week in a bridger #3. If you have any bigger traps it’s definantly possible. Caught her on a tbone set.

Bare ground is why we make the trip. I am pretty sure the no bs will hold, just a matter of putting the trap where they will be stepping. I don't know how big of an area they cover. Thinking about chumming the area with my dp bait - cat food with cherry essence and barbecue sauce, then blind setting the trails.

laugh we still have plenty of traps in the truck that need to be set. Only added 1 new set today and didn't remake 2 coon catches due to the mud. Kinda ran out of ambition fighting the conditions, decided to head in for lunch with some friends. Stopped by Atwoods and picked up a gallon of some kind of boar attractant, might try to make a few dirt holes for pigs. I wonder what the set back should be 12 back and 4 to the right lol. Still snowing as of 5:00

You would do better tot try and snare a pig than to try and hold one by the foot

I have had a bunch set my MB550s off by stepping on/in them. Same result as a deer, empty, sprung trap at end of tight chain
Not saying it is impossible but definitely low odds

Hope y'all start stacking the fur and stay warm wink

Looks like the only thing that moved last night was feral dogs and deer. We did find 3 coyote tracks and one worked a set from the side. Most of the side roads were garbage and probably a dozen or so vehicles in the ditches. Poured a half gallon of pig goop out and hung a cell camera to see if they are still in the area. I'm sure we will be reworking some sets tomorrow as we couldn't even find most of the DPs, we'll dump and rebait. High hopes for the rest of the trip as it appears the weather will be stable with highs in the 40s and lows in the 20s for the duration of our stay. Results should just keep getting better.

Welp, it froze hard enough that the coyotes could stay on top last night. Had enough misses that we ran into town and bought a rake. Only managed a pair of ferals and a possum. No pics today. Only deer on my pig bait site. Tomorrow's another day

The best laid plans, we got the sets decided and raked the snow away from pretty much all sets today. Dropped in a few more and should have a good chance at connecting. 48 degrees today dropping to 20 tonight, everything is pretty soupy and most of the snow is going fast. Freeze - thaw cycles for the rest of our trip. The wind has been tolerable and the sun is shining so we're pretty happy. A little luck today was welcomed. [Linked Image]

Fun day today. Found out 1 property got a thermal scope a few weeks ago and they have been using a few nights a week. On another property, some feral pitbuls killed 3 sheep on the neighbors property, they thre×threw the carcasses in the back property. That might help explain a few things. The ground is saturated and I think we missed a couple coyote today, they are balking at my waxed sand as it really stands out and any sifting of local ground turns into a frozen pancake by dark. Looking forward to tomorrow. [Linked Image]

Fun day and good weather. Struggling to find sign in a couple locations and had a epic miss. Good things to come I am sure. [Linked Image]

Coons, skunks, possums, and a coyote today. 55 degrees and sunny made for a good day. [Linked Image]

Set up on some fresh sign and chased some feral dogs out of a pasture. Pulled enough quill out of the skunks to cover gas for the day.

That red clay looks some ground I use to trap in Georgia. I brought some home. It makes some good pottery.

We will be bringing some home to mix with the sand that we will wax, hoping it will blend in a little more next year.

Not sure what we will do about it but it's not something a guy from Michigan is used to seeing on camera.

61 degrees and a little success made for a good day. Pulled 47cc of essence out of the skunk and caught the darkest possum we have ever seen. [Linked Image]

That's a beautiful looking skunk! Might be a candidate for the taxidermy market.

Fun day, windy but we manage to put 16 critters in the truck. Cat was pretty skinny and was 22 pound. Pull day tomorrow. [Linked Image]

It is amazing how many dogs are allowed to just run loose. When a few show up on a property, we can expect pretty much 0 wild critter catches. We have had 3 instances where they came across coons caught in traps and you can imagine the result.

Dogs running loose is part of the trapping experience here in the mid-south and it does suck.
Looks like y'all had a good run yesterday.

Was advised today by the DNR what their thoughts are and I think we will have a better plan for next year.

18 critters for today. I gotta say, I have dealt with the DNR in 6 states and Ontario, I have never met nicer guys than the ones in Oklahoma. I called the guy for the county I'm in to get seals for the otter and cat. He didn't answer but left 3 other guys to get ahold of in his message. I got ahold of one and he asked what day and time I wanted as well as where I would like to meet up. In the meantime, the original guy gets back to me and waited until my traps were pulled before meeting in a parking lot to get us sealed up, cool right? I get a text from the 2nd guy making sure I'm all set. Nothing like what I have dealt with in Michigan. Hats off to you Oklahoma people. [Linked Image]
28 degrees and blowing 20mph today made skinning outside a little harsh.
