Curious? What is the weirdest thing you have fond on your trapline. I found an old dump full of old blue Milk of Magnesa bottles in the middle of nowhere in the woods with no roads anywhere near

Those bottles have a beautiful blue color and are worth decent money. I always kept them when I found an intact one.

I caught a leucistic ground hog.

Me and my sister were walking in the woods when we found a bike sitting next to a tree in the middle of nowhere. The bike had obviously been there for some time.

There is some strange things in the woods.

The wild Savell
You have to snare them or bodygrip.
If you foothold one it will cut its foot off with a broken lonestar bottle and escape.

Found a purse under a bridge, went through it and found my aunts drivers license. Someone had stolen her purse, took the cash and change and thrown it out the window over a bridge, missed the water and I found it there months later.

It's not exactly t-man appropriate. Let's just say somebody was cooking up something highly inedible and I found the remnants of their camp...troopers were notified

When I was doing ADC work on some bird clubs years ago, I set up on a large skunk den close to a canal, nothing looked out of order.

Came back the next evening to check it and found some one had stuffed large drug stash in one of the openings or I missed when setting, yes I pulled it out and moved it over to another hole further away, came back the next day had a small skunk waiting so walked over to the stash tree and it was gone, thank the lord, did not want to be dealing with that for another month !

Found a Pistol on another club about a year later just out in the field, someone must have dropped it or it fell out some how and it had been there quite a while, just a 22, can't even remember the model make was a revolver, still got it some where !

While trapping beaver along a drainage ditch what I found discarded on the ditch bank at the intersection of the ditch and highway I can only describe as having two heads.... and that's all I can say about that.

Walking through a very large field I decided to take a break and to sit down next to a rock on the edge of the field. When I sat down I sat right on a very old No 2 Blake and Lamb under spring trap. What are the chances of this happening again 😊

A boat made from antique car hoods. I found the boat about 1/2 in from the nearest road and about 100yds from the creek.

Found another local trappers wallet wedged in a beaver dam. The strange part was the drivers license had been expired for 4 years. Gave him the wallet back and he said he rembered losing that wallet 6 years prior.

Ive seen some very odd tracks from something on two legs with massive feet and a 5’ gait walking in deep snow. No hair or toe prints, it looked like an extra extra large set of my skin boot prints. This was back in the winter of 2011. Similar tracks were found by a cousin of mine that same winter walking out of the flats into the mountains.

Wow where to start…

When boys were little we came across a beaver dam that had so much crap in it. Even had a toilet seat built into the dam itself. Garbage cans, pieces of scrap. The beavers used anything they could find around I guess.
[Linked Image]

One night several years ago was checking traps and with my little flashlight I walked up to a dirthole coon set with a very large boar coon in it, but the coon was killed and half eaten. Had never seen that before. Around here a big boar is a pretty formidable creature, incredibly strong and scrappy. That was pretty eerie. Never figured out what did that.

Old meth labs or remnants from them we would find sometimes. Just relayed the info to the sheriff.

Found a set of coveralls laying next to a fence and my first thought was maybe the farmer got warm and took them off then forgot to pick them up. Thought I’d be nice and return them. But quickly discovered someone had a very runny bowel movement all over the inside and that’s why they came off and were laying there. Yuck.

Found a child’s gloves once laying next to one of my sets. Weird thing and placement for those. It was way out in middle of a picked bean field waterway in cold January and no tracks around. One glove could have blown there by itself but not likely both did at same time. Never found the owner and landowners wasn’t sure either he didn’t have kids.

Money cannot buy you happiness, but it can buy you a trapping license and that's pretty close.

Oh and several years ago had a game warden that liked to set the trap off then leave his business card between the jaws. After about the third or fourth time I found this and called him every time he acknowledged the sets were legal no issues and we got to point he was comfortable I was playing by all the rules and haven’t seen that again since.

Not trapping but was marking timber in northern Michigan. Found a cooler with a dollar bill sticking halfway out of the closed lid. Despite being certain of a bomb or severed head inside, I let my curiosity get the best of me and opened it. It was empty.

I took photos and talked to a local LEO about it. He said it’s very likely a meet-up for local Christians who hide certain tendencies in their closets.

^ that reminds me.

We found a dead game warden once. Everyone got cuffed and stuffed and all our gear and truck was impounded before they figured out we walked up on him and tried to bring him back. He got out of his truck to check out our truck while we were deer hunting in the woods. We found him when we walked out for lunch. He fell over dead next to our truck, Brain Aneurism. He must have hit his head when he fell. It looked like someone clubbed him a good one. We didn't get our stuff back until a few days after the aneurism report came back.

After a fresh snow, saw a bunch of tracks out on a beaver pond. When I walked out there was tracks from a single coyote, fox, hawk, racoon and fisher. You could see the marks where the hawk had landed. All the tracks formed a circle each animal coming from a different point of the compass and they all left the same way they came in. There was absolutely nothing in the center where they all gathered around. Dug down through the snow looking, expecting to find blood, feathers, some sort of fresh kill, nothing.

Closest I have come to picturing animals that talked.....

Found a rail spike driver head buried in a creek bank where they used to haul logs to the river, found a plastic grenade stuffed into a dirt hole I had set for cats, caught a mole in a #330 body grip.

Caught two mice at the same time in a 110. Also found a #2 DLS in a gravel bed next to a colver I had been trapping by for the last 5 years or so. One spring borke when I compressed it so I know it was there for awhile. Can't read the copper name tag on it but gussing it's at least 20 years old or more.

not trapping but when my son was young (8-10?) we were rabbit hunting in the state park by a lake. We were following the beagle and she led us through some thick stuff. In the middle of it, there were little hardware cloth cages protecting tiny marijuana plants.

I should have just called 911 and had them send someone to meet us. Instead we started driving to the ranger station. Part way there, a sherif deputy was on a traffic stop. I just pulled over behind him (at a distance) and waited on him to finish and come talk to me. In hindsight, that was a bad idea. He was very nervous about what we were doing and approached with a lot of caution. To make it worse, the window regulator in the truck chose that moment to fail. So I couldn't roll down the window. I had to open the door. He wasn't happy. I showed a picture of the weed on my phone and said we found it in the park hunting.

He wanted me to tell him where it was, but it was hard to get to and find. I bookmarked it in the dog's GPS, so I knew I could get to it, but I couldn't give good instructions. So he reluctantly agreed to follow us back. Even though my son was with us, the sherif was obviously very suspicious of me, like I was leading him into a trap or something. Until we got all the way to the weed. Then it was clear I was telling the truth and he visually relaxed. Within another 30 minutes there were a lot of vehicles there. park rangers, sherifs, drug task force, etc.

There were a half dozen or so plants 3 inches tall.

Caught a big black lab in a cage trap set for fisher deep in the woods. Not close to any homes. Dog had a tag on so we were able to find the owner. When I first saw the trap I thought I had the biggest fisher ever caught or a small bear. Really surprised to see that he could fit in the box trap. He was some happy to get out

Wasn't scissors but would have been hand held. Just can't figure if it washed down the ditch from the neighborhood at the north side of the ditch or just flung out the window while driving down the highway.

1.While running my mink line on a snowy day, I was pleasantly surprised to find a nice male red fox on the deep end of my drowning cable.

2.During a tough point in life; divorce, custody battle, limited money etc.. I was running my trapline on a cloudy, bleak day when I heard a bald eagle’s shrill whistle call while walking across a beautiful high knoll. At that time bald eagles were pretty uncommon, so I was tickled to see the bird soaring about 80 feet above me. Upon looking up the eagle dropped a 12 inch herring that landed 20 feet from me, still alive. I took it as sign, and ate the fish that evening. The event really uplifted me on a bad day.

3. While running my coon line after coming home from college for Thanksgiving break, I entered That was on a Friday, so I presume she went to confession on Saturday smile

Found similar one day scouting for deer. This one was strapped to a tree at the appropriate height for inappropriate behavior.
Bout jumped out of my skin.

I've caught my share of strange critters over the years. Caught a porcupine at a muskrat feedbed at the end of an old log 20 ft from shore. Had rat lure at the set and the porky was drowned. The weirdest catch I've seen was by my
brother and l wouldn't have believed it, but he showed me a picture he took. He had a 110 body grip set in a rat den
Under the ice. When he pulled the snapped trap up their was a live but very slow moving garter snake in the jaws. I still scratch my head on that one.
I mentioned in another thread about catching 2 star nosed moles in a BE set for mink.

Caught a barn rat ( Norway ) in a conibear set in an under water bank den for muskrats.
Caught of course a wolverine.
Found a dead man, his face blown off!
Found a tile trap that had two sets of jaws , so it would catch coming or going.
Someone stole it from my Grainery .

I walked out to a low maintenance road about 30 years ago and spotted some orange clothing. There were 4 jumpsuits stuffed in a clump of brush that were from a local State Prison. I was glad I didn't walk out to the road any sooner as there were 2 cigarette butts on the road still smoldering. I called the prison and had to meet a couple guys to show them the uniforms. They said the group had escaped 3 days prior and evidently somebody picked them up on this road. They were very grateful for the tip, and glad I didn't run into the 4 inmates either. I never did hear any more about it.

Big rain a few years back and was pulling a few traps when I looked up there was a refrigerator bobbing along headed for Iowa. Rumor here is Iowa is interested in buying the bottom row of counties in MN. I would be willing but it will Not happen
