When I was younger I hunted with an old guy that caught a lot of cats. He had a great dog but couldn’t get to the trees anymore. Was my job to retrieve the dogs. He had a few sayings one was there is always an oddball in the group. We would hunt almost year round till we found a cat to run. Once the cat was jumped it would be 20 minutes almost to the minute for this dog to tree a bobcat. Roland always told me that’s how long it takes for knock the wind out of a bobcat. She hardly ever lost the scent long enough for them to regain their breath. Seldom was there a cat that would just bay up. But once in a while one would normally in a log thicket that was rough going to get in and kill the cat. Those were fun days, hunting summer and winter. I was able to get a fairly good dog trained working with this guy. Mine was out of a line a guy by the name Sam Faulk bread. He was a legendary bear hunter , worth looking up.

Nope. The hunter must pay attention and try to hunt areas with no or few lynx.

Sounds like some friends of mine who run coyotes in MN with walkers. I asked if their hounds ever run into wolves and what they do about it if they do? He said they can usually tell by the size of the tracks if they're on a wolf. Then they pull the dogs off in case they are. But, they do the same and try to stay out of areas where running into a wolf is a possibility.

A good strong trappers association backed by a membership consisting of most all the trappers in the state would be able to develop good political connections that would put the brakes on the beurocrats right quick.
