Sometimes the bobcat won't tree and get bayed up on the ground or get away.

How do the Maine cats compare with the Western cats price wise?

I got myself a seniors' GPS.

Sounds like your trappers association dropped the ball if they are open for hunters but closed to trappers.

When I was younger I hunted with an old guy that caught a lot of cats. He had a great dog but couldn’t get to the trees anymore. Was my job to retrieve the dogs. He had a few sayings one was there is always an oddball in the group. We would hunt almost year round till we found a cat to run. Once the cat was jumped it would be 20 minutes almost to the minute for this dog to tree a bobcat. Roland always told me that’s how long it takes for knock the wind out of a bobcat. She hardly ever lost the scent long enough for them to regain their breath. Seldom was there a cat that would just bay up. But once in a while one would normally in a log thicket that was rough going to get in and kill the cat. Those were fun days, hunting summer and winter. I was able to get a fairly good dog trained working with this guy. Mine was out of a line a guy by the name Sam Faulk bread. He was a legendary bear hunter , worth looking up.

Sounds like some friends of mine who run coyotes in MN with walkers. I asked if their hounds ever run into wolves and what they do about it if they do? He said they can usually tell by the size of the tracks if they're on a wolf. Then they pull the dogs off in case they are. But, they do the same and try to stay out of areas where running into a wolf is a possibility.

A good strong trappers association backed by a membership consisting of most all the trappers in the state would be able to develop good political connections that would put the brakes on the beurocrats right quick.

My friend John has his summer home in Forest City He guides for bass and land locked salmon in the summer months And sometimes he does some guiding for grouse and woodcock in OCT AND PART OF NOV Some years he just hunts for himself and his son if he can make there At one time he did a lot of guide work for birds But he grew tired of the complaining and grumbling coming from the cliental would unload on him They where unhappy about the number of birds they saw or the leaves where too thick on the trees and made it hard to shot shot or the guide was saving his best spots for himself on the next day Even had clients that where getting GPS locations and come back the next day unguided after he took them to a place he felt was a hotspot I nly ever made it there one time And the weather was terrible for mid July Rained first three days and was chilly almost cold Then Wed it was sunny and some rain mixed in and than on THUR it felt like Fall with a strong cod breeze The fishing was slow and not anything that was a good size But it was a good trip Only wish is I would have liked to go back But some things are not meant to be Did you ever read the book They Called Him WILDCAT that man lead an amazing life He must have been as tough as nails

None ever get that big here. Those suckers look like they would have no problem taking down deer.
