Update - I traveled to my twin brother's home the 9th to inspect the airport grounds. Set foot holds that afternoon and the next day. He has just had knee surgery and could only set snares. He removed 7 yotes two years ago when they were chewing the runway lights into. This year the coyotes have quit chewing the runway lights into as they made a change in the installation of them.

Several months ago the yotes went on the runway and pulled the expansion joints from the cement joints. It is a rubbery sponge type substance about 4 inches high and 1/2 in thick. They pulled out/up various area sections chewing it into. The airport has had to replace it with a hot mix tar substance which they leave alone.

In checking the chain link fence on the boundary line there are dig under places and gates that are high enough on one end for them to get into the grounds.

In talking with an employee, he shared during bushhogging this summer he had a family of 8 following his tractor catching the mice and rats. I asked why did you not carry a shotgun with # 6 shot and remove the problem? The answer was, we can not shoot in the city limits.

Coyote sign was not very evident and at this time I am estimating/guessing 2 to 4 coyotes are using the airport. The first morning I caught a male in a urine post set. Since I have left on the 11th, he has snared a bob cat and had a coon? fool with a foot hold.

The airport has subdivisions or commercial complexes around 3 sides and large acreage woods on the other side.

Paul Harvey - the rest of the story later. He has another 1&1/2 weeks on his removal contract left.

He won't even keep up with the reproduction rate. Expect to start seeing fox as soon as the coyote population has been temporarily lowered. They are not friendly to landing gear either. The airport needs a secure fence.

I trapped yotes on a municipal airport when I was a kid. It was loaded with them

I did as recently as two years ago...and the groundsman was happy, happy, happy. Then the USDA trappers found out. Everyone has to justify their existence it seems.

Exactly what did you do as recently as two years ago?
How did USDA trappers become part of the story?
Maybe it is just me, but I am having trouble following what you are saying.

The OP is exactly why WS exists. You can't go kill one coyote when an airport has a coyote problem, and expect to be called back.

When I took over the airport wildlife program here, I took 68 off 1300 acres. I bet there's more there.

If it makes a track on this earth , I can catch it.
