Hi all, I'm a recent transplant from ak. I'm living in mt for the foreseeable future and would like to get out and do a little trapping or tag along on a line once in a while. I have my superwide with me and it looks like I'll have a little free time this winter. I'll be somewhere between Bozeman and Kalispell. I'm totally unfamiliar with trapping in this area but would love to learn from someone who is.

Thanks,

Ross

Welcome to Montana Ross!
Have you joined the Montana Trappers Association - you are in district 3. If you are a member check with the District Representative to find out if there are any trappers near you who wouldn't mind helping you out. If you are not a member be sure to become one.

I don't know whats happening out there in the West these days as far as permission to trap (I hear some bad things often, lot of Liberals), but I'd guess to say that permission to trap can still be had by knocking on doors and presenting yourself well. The other 3/4 of the state though... I think your chances are very good! Can't help you on the referral to another trapper to tag along with, but I welcome you to the state and wish you well! Joel

Thanks everyone. I'll join the mta. My superwide is a skidoo sno-go. Used to using snares for wolves but looks like I'll have to invest in a few footholds.
