Hi,
We have quite a few pesky Ground Squirrels running around our place so we decided to set a couple traps for them. 4 hours after we set them we already caught one! This is a photo a my 15 year old brother holding up his first.

What we did was set a Victor #1 single spring about a foot from the squirrel's hole. We left the pan and inside of the jaws uncovered and put some crushed corn and milo on the pan. When the ground squirrel jumped onto the pan, snap! We had him.
So far we have killed 6 of them and skinned them. I'm freezing the carcasses to trade or sell to anyone who wants them for bait. If your interested in getting some PM me and I'll see what I can do!

Well, my trapping money is gone so I don't have any way to get trapping supplies so I'm trying to sell these.

Hire yourself out to the nearest golf course as 13 striped GS removal at 5.00 ea. Check early in the a.m. before golfers show. Solve both ends of your situation.

Unless you're running a golf course, I've never seen what damage they do. I've actually lived trapped them for people and let them go in the yard hoping they would stay...but too many critters here I guess. I guess I"m missing something.

While 13 striped GS don't do much damage to the course they are prey for and attract Badgers here so cemeteries and courses get ahead of the game by making those areas devoid of as much badger prey as possible. I have used phosphide to gas the dens/holes in the spring but miss a few or some always move in. I suspect you would have gopher problems attracting badgers there and a good greens keeper will know that and keep ahead of his pest problems. Plus there is some research in the Journal of Wildlife Management that has the "13 striper" in some areas as being a significant nesting predator of ground nesting birds (including pheasants). Anyway to turn the negative value of wildlife into a positive value has merit with me...... the mike

Auther trapper you don’t have to be so elaborate when setting for those we used to just set the trap over the hole ( upside down)with the pan centered over the hole they come up and trigger the trap when they try to push it clear of the hole

Check with the skull guy ( skulls unlimited) and see if he is interested in them

Used to make a lot of money as a kid trapping them for .50 each for the tails and the pocket gophers for a buck I was making more then my friends that had paper routes

Pretty thin, Wife...but thanks for the comment. I'm not buying they kill many pheasants. They rarely venture into the tall grass as they are just prey there as well.

And killing them so they don't draw badgers (the badger being the real problem.) is ridiculous to me. Maybe we should kill all the salmon in the river because they draws bears.

The older I get, I now say no to a some of the people that want this or that removed. They give some reason but in the end these people are just afraid of any kind wildlife anywhere near them. Much of it harmless. WE as damage control need to (This word is unacceptable on Trapperman) the situation based on our knowledge. Not just if they are going to pay us.

Well I don’t know about pheasant but so know that they raid ground nesting birds like horned larks and killdeer because I have see it several times

I will not allow them around the house because of the damage they do to wiring and other things, when I was a kid the Anoka state hospital had a real problem with them getting into and chewing the wiring or some of the cottages to the time of 5 figures worth of damage
