Picking up skunks the other day. Next door neighbor is asking me in a polite way what I was doing. As usual I am pretty vague.
Ten minutes later I am getting into my truck and this guy around Paul's age(the neighbor) comes out and says what I'm doing is illegal and asks for my permit.
I say once he is a warden I will give my permit. Well he grabs my arm and proclaims he is an American citizen. Shrug him off and threaten the police.
Homeowner comes out and gives him what for.
My first instinct is to give him some free dental work, but he is an older gent.
Curious if anything has happened to you guys? I've been harassed before but never been touched.

Aaron

I would be polite and show him my N.Y.S. N.W.C.O License. If he escalated it any further, I would call the local C.O. to deal with him. If he touched me, I would knock him out, I am also an "older gent" and don't take kindly to rude people putting their hands on me, young or old.

Only had this happen once. I offered my cell phone to the guy, with the Sheriffs personal cell number or Game and Fish already dialed. And also offered to call them on the two way radio in my truck. He declined. Several months later I was removing coons for him.

Paul Strikes Again: To be perfectly honest, while Robb and Mike swear to humility, my Mentalist type insight tells me that it all depends on who is doing the grabbing and where it's at!

If I was pretty sure I could beat him up and have fun doing it I would beat the crap out of him. If I thought I could beat him up but he would take most of the fun out of it or I thought he might beat me up I would fall back on the legal system. I would make sure that he knew that the only reason I wasn't going mano e mano was I was to mature, morally and legally. If I was far enough away I might say something about pulling off his head and pooping in his neck.
All joking aside it is people like that that you have to have laws, the police etc. for or he would be getting whipped, he wouildn't have any toys and his mate would be taken daily by some stronger creature.
It sounds like you handled it pretty well. It never got physical and he is now paying you but always remember he is a butt hole and will revert back under stress. Don't get to fr ahead on money he owes you.

People that are Paul's age should keep their blood pressure down and their lip buttoned.( At least that's what Paul's wife tells me almost daily )

I would have just told him what I was doing and explained the problems associated with skunks. You should try to charm them rather than alarm them. Being nice is hard sometimes but it will pay off in the long run.

I would just be a nice guy and deliver the skunks to his front door at no charge. If he wanted them, i would of given him them after a little squeeze.

Thanks for the replies. I was being nice up Intill he put his hands on me.
As far as delivering skunks to his front door, I think the four overflowing bowls of cat food on his pourch accomplish that already.
My customer must have laid into him pretty hard yesterday, he didn't even look my way.

"American citizen"??! What's he gonna do, a citizen's arrest? Sounds like he's off his med's.
Aaron, you did about as well as could be expected, defusing the situation.
Respect your elders - by which I mean, If you give him the dope-slap he deserves, you might break his neck or kill him...and then you in a heap o' trouble (self-defense or not)!
But the next time he approaches, unless he's apologizing, call the cops immediately.
...Had a customer tell me the other day that she spoke to "a competitor" who informed her that I was breaking the law. I politely gave her the name of the Department of Conservation officer who could set her straight.
Hey Wink, leave Paul alone!

I got locked up in Korea for throat punching an old man and he went through a store window. I only did it because he kept following me and kicking me in the butt. Then I would turn around and he would put his hands up like all 80 pound of him was gonna beat me up. He was bleeding pretty bad so I put pressure on the leg wound. A station wagon showed up with the goon squad and took me, but left him on the side walk.

Okay Mike, How long was your stay and what was the fine? Were you in the service and wearing your uniform? Was this guy a dropout from a kick-boxing school? I have a grandaughter from South Korea; will I have to worry about her kicking my butt? So many questions.

Did you tell the customer it was the neighbor feeding them the cat food that attracted them there in the first place?
