I don’t think so. But you may get to the point where burying them is more difficult with a lot of hardware beneath your trap.
Never too old to learn

I run one for every 6 inches of chain. That is on predator traps. Works well for me. My chain length is 18" on most sets. Again works well for me. Some may like other length for them and I say do what works for you.
Wish I had more time to trap....

Same here strike2x about every 6" of chain. I dont think you can have too many swivels on coon or coyote traps. More swivels are a good thing for both species. I add an extra set or two to every dog proof too. Jim

Money cannot buy you happiness, but it can buy you a trapping license and that's pretty close.

Thanks so much for the replies. I'm just getting started. I got Bridger #3's for canine trapping and am modifying before even boiling them. I went to #3 select chain and crunch proof swivels and shock springs. I set them up with swivels at the trap Then 6 links swivel, shock spring swivel, 15 links swivel at end. I was afraid maybe that 4 was too many. Big investment in 3 dozen traps sounds like I didn't mess it up. Thanks again!

First, there are NO dumb questions in life, since you are trying to educate yourself.....a mindset that many have for some reason, but those questions can prevent dumb mistakes in the future! Second, many put swivels to swivels. Here in NC we must have 3 in an 8" chain (if its staked down, but not for drags).
I like 3 anyway.
I do agree with the generous use of swivels but there is no statewide requirement to use them in NC. There are some local county laws that require multiple swivels so folks in NC need to check the local laws where they are trapping to make sure they are legal.

I prefer 3 on my yote traps the middle one always seams to do the most work! The one at the trap and anchor are usually plugged with grass. This might have a lot to do with chain length. I run a swivel 3 links of #2 chain swivel 4 links of chain with a added stop shock spring and terminate with a swivel connect to earth anchor around 12" when finished
