It’s Fall again and our time of the year is just around the corner. Come join us near Williamsburg for YOUR meet on Friday October 4 and Saturday Oct. 5. We’ve tried to make it a full two days with demos, dealers and kids about non stop activities with prizes and trophies.
Food will be available onsite Friday for lunch, Friday afternoon and Saturday for lunch. Friday evening’s meal we’ll be having the famous garbage can cookout. We plan to have a jam session with local musicians and any trapper that wants to join in for a relaxing, laid back afternoon with friends and like minded people.
We’ll be having an officer’s meeting Friday afternoon so there won’t be any holdup on Saturday after lunch getting the auction going. There will also be a trappers trade table on Friday where each one brings and item and takes a ticket and when your number is drawn you choose from any item on the table. Those of us that have done it in the past have really enjoyed it.
I know our confirmed supply dealers will be Hal Sullivan, Nick Erny and Collins River Trap Supply from Tennessee. Boo Boyer’s will likely be there too. Tailgaters are welcome and appreciated. Unlimited room to tailgate, lots of room under an outdoor pavilion in the shade.
Should be about anything you want or need for the upcoming season.
Friday
There will be a Trappers Swap Table at the meet. Bring an item and take a ticket. When your name is called choose from any item on the table. It’s fun.
Kids coloring table through both days with outdoor related coloring pages. Prizes will be given.
0900-1045- Stacy White leading. Water trapping in the field about five minutes from facilities. This will be a group discussion at a bridge and creek where all are invited to comment or take part. Bring your hip boots if you want to get in the water. We’ll run a passenger van out to the site.
1100- Bobcat snaring with Jimbo and Luke Barton. They are going to demonstrate how they snared their cats last season. Simple and effective.
1200- Lunch on site provided by Refuge Baptist Academy. Hot dogs, barbecue and drinks.
1300- Otter and mink trapping with Colt Peel.
1400- Snare construction and canine snaring with Chris Jacobson from Tennessee.
1500- Coon trapping with Nick Erny from Indiana.
1600- UTK officer and director’s meeting.
1730- The famous garbage can cooking for the evening meal. We cook everything in a big garbage can.
Afterwards we are having local and trapper musicians sitting around with an evening jam session. Bring your instrument.
Saturday
Coffee and donuts on site in the morning.
0800-0945 - Stacy White leading. On site land trapping discussion similar to the water demo. We’re going out about five minutes to one of Stacy White’s actual farms to discuss location and show locations that have produced for him. We encourage everyone to pitch in and comment. We’ll run a passenger van out to the site.
1000- Nationally known trapper and outdoor writer Hal Sullivan from Ohio. Dirt trapping and proper trap bedding.
1100- First ever beaver skinning competition. We have three like sized beaver and three trappers will compete to see who’s the fastest, and slowest, beaver skinner. Bring a sharp knife or two, we may have to recruit from the audience.
1200- Lunch on site.
1300- Full general meeting with all attendants. There are several things going on concerning trapping in Kentucky and we’ll be there to answer any questions you may have about your group.
1330- Trappers auction. Highlight of the meet sometimes. Please bring something if you can or can get a donation from a business near you. Outdoor items, traps or anything. We’ve had some very nice ladies’ items in the past as well. This is our largest fundraiser for our group for the annual operation.
Chet Hayes will be leading several different fun kids activities both days with prizes for each.
We are also having four different competitive events for the kids. There will be archery, two divisions. They may bring their own bow. Bows will be on hand for those that wish. Jeremiah White has volunteered to help on this one.
BB gun shoot, two divisions
Casting competition , two divisions.
And actual trap speed setting competition, two divisions.
The above four activities will have medals and trophies awarded.
There will also be a coloring table for the younger ones for the whole meet and they will be judged as well.
We are all busy and fur prices are low but if you enjoy trapping and want to keep it strong for future generations in Kentucky. Hope to see you there.
